Great colour that lasts!
Really impressed with this dye. Easy to apply and went a long way. I have blond hair naturally but did bleach the ends to give it the best start. Still going strong although less vibrant with nice pastor colour now after 20 washes! Very impressed.

You do not need bleach. 😀
I bought this for my wife, this is her review. Really, really pleased with this colour. I like to colour my hair a very deep black but I find they fade quite quickly and I was doing it every other month which was starting to damage my hair, so I got the ebony to try, when I opened it I was a little worried, I like the blue black type colours and this looked a sort of reddish dark brown colour, when on though (or on your skin or any other surface) it's more of a blue black. I didn't bleach or pre lighten my hair, it was already dyed black, I used two tubs to completely cover my bra strap length hair although I think for reapplications it will only need one, one and a half at most, my hair was washed and towel dried, and I left it on for about two hours. I used Vaseline all around my hairline and on my ears as I know this can really stain your skin, and I wore thick yellow rubber gloves and applied it with my hands rather than a tint brush as I was doing all over. I also had plenty of bleach on hand as this really stains your bath and sink. If you do get it on your skin get it off quickly and it doesn't stain then. The colour is amazing, I'm really pleased with it, I wanted a really Deep black like the pictures of really classy forties film stars, but without chemicals and this is it, my hair is soft and shiny after using too. I will say make sure you rinse it all out properly as I had to go back and do it again as I could feel it still in my hair as I was drying it. It really is worth the extra effort it looks and feels great and you don't have to bleach to get it right. I will admit my scalp is a little blue but that's a small price to pay for the colour I want without the damage, and it hasn't stained my pillow like other reviewers have mentioned, I think they haven't rinsed properly. I'm now thinking of mixing the ebony and midnight blue. Will update as to how long its lasts before needing reapplication. UPDATE: After four boxes of hair colour remover my hair was almost my natural dark brown, I have just applied one tub of midnight blue mixed with a little conditioner, I put it on dry hair and left it on for about two hours and I am sooooo pleased with the result. Its a very dark subtle blue, it almost looks black at a distance then you see the blue as you get nearer, under the light the blue is much more obvious but still subtle. Before deciding to try this I had also had a go at mixing a full pot of ebony with three quarter of midnight blue and got a gorgeous intense blue black. You can experiment with these colours and you don't need bleach.

Love this dye
I have been using Rubine for 3 years now (and dying my hair unnatural colours for 28 cough*) and it’s the best one I’ve used (and I’ve used a lot!) , doesn’t dry the hair out, doesn’t stain the bath after rinsing and if you wash your hair once a week it lasts for ages, I will say that the photo shows it on bleached hair, the picture for the colour shows a deep purple colour but it isn’t, it is luminous pink! Photo shows it freshly died on faded bleached hair, it fades to a nice light pink unlike most that make you look like a fruit salad sweet where they fade to yellow, so even when it’s washed out it still looks nice, somethings I think it get more compliments when it need redoing that when it’s freshly done! I have thick shoulder length hair and the little pot is enough for my whole head, it goes so so far! If you’re hesitant, just go for it! It’s only hair, I’ve also used the white too that works so well on bleached hair. Just a great dye all round, never use anything else now.

Conditioning - Some Awesome Colours
I've tried a few of these Directions semi-permanent dyes on un-bleached hair now and have had mixed results. However, I do love the ones that have worked and have uploaded photos of the best ones. I shall describe each one seperately - all of which were left for around 30mins after being fully applied. I was looking to try some semi-permanent dyes but was unwilling to bleach my hair as I never have and don't want to damage my hair too much. The first photo I uploaded is roughly what my hair was like when I first used these dyes. My natural medium brown hair had grown through and left over highlights towards the bottom had turned quite light. They were more towards the very end of my hair when I dyed it though, rather than the majority of it like in the photo. The length is about the same. I first tried the lagoon blue which just gave my hair a slight green tinge (more visible on the light ends). As it wasn't very noticeable I haven't uploaded a picture of this one. This was the colour that had the most noticeable transference onto clothes and my bed pillow. I used one pot for the whole of my head as it seemed to cover well. I then used the second pot after only a couple of days and one wash to see if it made it brighter but there was minimal difference. I then tried Midnight Blue not long after (the third picture I uploaded). This showed up a lot more than the lagoon blue, and I quite liked it. On the left is the colour in artificial light and on the right is colour in natural light. It turned out sort of like turquoise on my hair, however my brother was nice enough to say it looked grey... It faded to more of a brown with a greenish hint again after a few washes. This also left some transference on my pillow but wasn't as bad as the Lagoon Blue. This colour was obtained with just one pot and I still have one pot left over. I tried to wait until the colour had completely faded before applying the Dark Tulip, but there was definitely still some green in the tips. However the Dark Tulip dye (second photo I uploaded) came out as a very nice (in my opinion) purple colour. Again, the left is in artificial light and the right is in natural light. It faded to nothing within a few weeks but I was very pleased with the colour obtained whilst it lasted and I intend to use the second pot soon. This one seemed to stain skin more (but I know reds often do) but I actually noticed little transference at all onto my pillows and clothes. Next up was the Tangerine colour. My hair seemed to soak up the first pot so I applied the second pot in the same sitting and after washing there was minimal difference. The ends of my hair certainly had a more copperish tinge but seeing as I had that anyway, it wasn't something anyone noticed. This was therefore the most disappointing, but I suppose it is to be expected when putting a light colour designed for bleached hair onto medium brown. Finally, I tried Rubine. This turned out a lovely reddish colour (the last photo uploaded). Both photos are in natural light but the one on the left was on a grey day and was the same day it had been dyed. The one on the right is on a sunny day and was after being washed once and half-heartedly straightened. This one also completely faded quickly (around 4 washes), but also no noticeable transference to other things. This was one pots worth of dye so I have one left and have recently used just under half to 'dip dye' the lower part of my hair. All of these dyes are conditioning and have left my hair feeling rather soft - I imagine you could leave it on for however long you want but 30mins was more than enough for the ones that actually worked for me. I can imagine the best results are definitely achieved on pre-lightened and bleached hair but this shows that some still can work quite successfully on natural hair.
