Is this supposed to come with a rod to keep it upright? Mine has not.

Yes. There are 2 rods that join together. One is 29 cms long the other 22 cms long.

Have just bought this item. Smaller than I thought and not in a box. Is something wrong.

Bearing in mind I purchased this item in 2014, mine was boxed and measured about 50cm, hope this helps !
