A Must for external wood!
Really great product! This is the second tin I've bought of the Ronseal Primer and Undercoat. I repainted all the exterior wooden windows in my house, and before I started, they looked all weathered, uneven, minor cracks etc. A quick prep and two coats of the undercoat and they were really smooth and good for painting. It was touch dry pretty quickly (less than 30 mins) but i re-coated after 2 hours. I left overnight before applying the paint finish, but due to the surface being smooth and fresh, it only took one coat of brown paint to finish the windows.

Does what it says on the tin
No, really...it does what it says on the tin! Nice paint, easy to apply and clean up. Opacity could be a little better, but all in all a good solid product.

Flex and Fortify: A Review of Ronseal's Super Flexible Wood Primer 🎨🪵💪
Flex and Fortify: A Review of Ronseal's Super Flexible Wood Primer 🎨🪵💪As a woodworking enthusiast, I understand the importance of a reliable wood primer and undercoat. It's the foundation upon which your masterpiece is built, and it can make or break the final result. That's why I was eager to try out Ronseal's Super Flexible Wood Primer and Undercoat in Grey. With its promises of flexibility and superior adhesion, I had high hopes for this product.Right off the bat, I was impressed by the smooth and even application. The primer glided onto the surface effortlessly, providing excellent coverage with each stroke. 👌 The grey hue was also a welcomed sight, as it provided a perfect base for darker topcoats, ensuring a rich and vibrant finish. One of the standout features of this primer is its highly flexible resin formula. As someone who works with exterior wood projects, I've encountered my fair share of cracking and peeling topcoats due to the natural movement of the wood. However, Ronseal's Super Flexible Primer promised to move with the wood, maintaining its adhesion and preventing those dreaded cracks and peels. And let me tell you, it delivered on that promise! 💪 Even after subjecting my test pieces to various weather conditions, the primer remained firmly adhered, keeping my topcoat looking fresh and intact.Another impressive aspect was the advanced stain-locking mechanism. As someone who frequently works with resinous woods like mahogany and teak, I've experienced the frustration of extractives and tannins discoloring my paintwork. But with Ronseal's primer, those worries became a thing of the past. It created an effective barrier, ensuring my topcoats maintained their vibrant hues without any unsightly staining. However, no product is perfect, and I did encounter a minor drawback with this primer. While it excelled in terms of adhesion and stain-blocking, I found that it lacked slightly in the washability department. 😕 When attempting to clean up any accidental spills or drips, the primer proved a bit stubborn, requiring a bit more elbow grease than I would have liked.Overall, Ronseal's Super Flexible Wood Primer and Undercoat in Grey is a solid choice for anyone seeking a reliable and durable base for their exterior wood projects. Its flexibility, superior adhesion, and stain-blocking capabilities make it a standout option, especially for those working with resinous woods. While its washability could be improved, the benefits it offers far outweigh this minor inconvenience. If you're in the market for a high-quality wood primer that can withstand the elements and keep your topcoats looking their best, this product is definitely worth considering. 🎨✨

it does what it says
I think where paint is concerned you get what you pay for. Ronseal produsts are always good and this undercoat went on easily. two coats and then the top coat of satin gloss looked fabulous./

First use of a water based primer under coat.
This was our first use of a water based primer undercoat so wanted to use a product from a known manufacturer. So this was applied to a brand new hardwood front door. The application is different to oil based products so you have to learn not to go over patches already covered or it pulls off. So after the first coat you may think 'oh heck what have I done!' but following the instructions pays off as after the second the coverage was good. Well worth knocking back with some fine sandpaper as it does raise the grain. Interestingly we did use a little Ronseal two part filler to to smooth in the weatherboard joint as a recommended product for use with this paint. Very interesting that the paint would not stick to it even though it is by the same manufacturer! Top coated in Ronseal paint and the results are good after the second coat. Good adhesion and coverage inc over the filler. So I will be interested if it can make the 10 years promised on the tin.

Thin, watery and not very good adhesion
My experience of this paint seems to go against what others are saying. Firstly, it seems to be very thin...even after a good stir and it drips easily. The adhesion isn't brilliant either. I'm using this on indoor wood and bought it to undercoat the wood in my bathroom.Even after prepping previously glossed surfaces, this undercoat scratched away very easy once dry, exposing the paint underneath. It definitely needs two coats minimum. This is the first time I've ever used a water based primer, so maybe this is what they're all like but I'm not hopeful that it will provide a long lasting base for the paint I've chosen. It's a decent price and also low odour and easy to clean up after use.
