Reality is about perception.
I write, just having watched this, Russel Crowe in one of his best performances into the world of a genius. He takes you subtley as you watch and become one with John Nash and yet, as an observer and student. The delusions becoming as real to us and as it did to John, and then the crash when he discovers the delusion. The struggles and the failures and then the acceptance of the inevitable and finally, conquering it. The end speech revealed the truth we all live in. Beyond yet not denying the power of math in life's journey but concluding in the truth and reality it leads to love. You find God in math as the greatest mathemetician and the greatest and purest of all love. Eternal, never ending, that walks the darkness with us to see us through. You have touched eternity and beyond and lived to tell the tale. I would if I could tell John, thank you for sharing your journey. That is why you are an inspiration not just in math, but in life and beyond. That was your life's purpose and journey.

A Beautiful Film!
Ron Howard's Biopic of mathematician John Nash is a triumph in all departments. Yes the story is incomplete and some parts of John's life have been left out, but this is a good thing as a true and faithful account of anybodies whole life would not be a movie, it would be a documentary. Luckily for us the writers have decided what is important and what is not, and as a result of that disciplined approach have written a film that is superb from beginning to the end.Following John's life from 1948 at Princeton to the Nobel Prize 46 years later we learn about his overwhelming desire to come up with a truly unique and original idea that over time drives him to near insanity. Not what you might think would make a riveting and memorable film that won four Oscars including Best Picture 10 years ago. However you would be wrong. Ron Howard handles a delicate and not on the face of it, commercial subject with authority. He ensnares the viewer with flair and imaginative visuals, not to compensate for a dull story as some other directors do, but to enhance our feeling of involvement. When John starts to hallucinate we are at first not aware of it, just like John, later when we learn a little more, we are. This technique gave me a feeling of being part of the story, rather than just a passive viewer from outside.James Horner's wonderful Oscar nominated Score is now on my CD shelf and is played often. A beautiful haunting and mischievous piece that compliments the film no end. It is however in the end a film that will succeed of fail based on the leading man who takes on the role. That man was Russell Crowe. Whether you love or loath him Russell gives his best performance ever by some margin and it is a disgrace that he lost out on the Best Actor Oscar. He should have walked it.Sometimes films just come along and just seem to work even when you think the shouldn't. This is one of those films.

Huh?
I have had a DVD of 'A Beautiful Mind' since it first was issued and have watched it many times. It is a most moving portrayal by Russell Crowe of an eminent mathematician's graduation descent into dementia and have bought this copy for my daughter who will enjoy it as much I do.

Ron Howard is one of the best directors of the late 20th century and early 21st century.
All the actors are performing at their best. The story is beautiful and heartbreakingThe first time I watched it I thought my brain had been hit so hard I was just stunned - a genuine one of a kind masterpiece.

Very Thought Provoking
A Beautiful Mind is an invigorating story that focuses on the life of John Nash, a gifted student from Princeton University. The has some minor historical inaccuracies but nonetheless offers a riveting story, one which will keep you guessing as to what is actually going on. Things will steadily begin to piece together and begin to make complete sense however and combines to create a very thought provoking film, for those who have not heard of John Nash and for those familiar with his life. The struggle feels real in the film to say the least, characters go to and from different aspects of emotion regarding the situation and ultimately makes the film almost come alive as a result. The acting all around is top notch, seriously so. The film however may be a bit of a slow burner at first, for roughly the first 45 minutes as it sets out the story and the life of John Nash, it does pick up very quickly from that point however. Overall the film is very enjoyable to watch and to re-watch as i have done. It's a film where you pick up the subtle and finer details left in by the director which help push the strength of the story.
