The greatest budget synth available today.
This is a wonderful product, destined to sell bucket loads. It occupies the budget end of the synth market, but that shouldn't deter any potential buyers; it makes the classic Korg sound, which means it can do Trance and EDM sounds in it's sleep. (The oscillators are digital, but pretty damn warm.) I am so glad I bought one. Here are the best things about it: 1. its compact - space matters right? 2. the keyboard is both sturdy and springy which makes playing it pleasurable and tactile. 3. it's dead easy to use. (You can go deep into the programming I you must - I won't judge you.) 4. It looks really cool - the maple sides are kind of future - retro - I don't think there's a better looking keyboard out there. 5. the killer 'app' - it plays sounds from inside...like a piano (and uses batteries too if you want) This is no gimmick - this is the future. Korg took a classic piece of gear and made it even more reliable and awesome. Buy now!

It's way too much fun!!
This thing is so much fun! It has built in speakers (hidden away under the keys) and it sounds powerful. The synthesizer comes with about 30 sounds for each of the various music genres, (trance, house, DnB, hip hop) and all are customisable and write-able to empty slots. It has so many knobs and dials to shape your sounds you lose yourself in creativity. It like painting with sound. I wish I bought one of these 15 years ago. I'm sure I could of written a hit track by now. The build quality is solid and sleek and retro, and everything on its console is clear with an simple layout. There are no on-board computerized windows or screens. It's just all knobs and dials. So it's very organic and you really feel like you are shaping the sounds and playing the whole unit as one instrument. The keys are small not full size and have a hard springy-ness to them but they are very responsive and good for fast movement across the keyboard. It has 2 wheels. A pitch bend and a oscillator. Both customisable and again very responsive. An improvement to this model would be a function to loop & record sounds, or have built in drums/rhythms sections. The vocoder takes a bit of practice. Overall though I just simply love it. It's fun, portable, creative, retro, powerful. Probably does even more than I realise. I might even get round to reading the manual - if could just put it down!

Great sounds for the money, flimsy in design.
This is a good synth for people who are just getting into hardware synthesizers. It can produce some nice sounds if you get your head around how to program it. I bought this after my Arturia Microbrute and although the Microbrute is much better made, I would advise getting this first as it has a much nicer sound pallet than the microbrute. The vocoder is a lovely touch too. This synth is pretty flimsy though so make sure you're careful with it!

Clever piece of kit
Classic sounds. Easy to use. I don’t like the gooseneck mic though. Too flimsy. Be prepared to use another one. Updated version of the classic micro korg. The built in speakers are a welcome addition.

Poor keyboard
This synth gets a lot of praise from many quarters and no doubt it is in itself a good synth. The big problem to be aware of if you are thinking of buying is, the keyboard is very poor its very like playing a child's toy piano, it is not a nice experience for me and I returned it.

Korg Synthesizer / Vocoder
Excellent and very flexible instrument, sounds retro or modern and the vocoder function gives you an instant Electric Light Orchestra sound! Only slight drawback is the small keys on the keyboard but this can be midi'ed into a full size one easily. Great fun this instrument is.

Reality is often disappointing.
I had coveted one of these bad boys since I was about 17, but for some reason never got around to actually investing in one. Now in my early thirties, I have started making a lot of electronica, so I decided to fork out at last. I have to say, I was a little disappointed with what I got. A lot of the presets are very poor, and it's not all that easy to make your own sounds - it could stand to be a lot more user-friendly. It's not that comfortable of an instrument to play either, due to the small keys, but I knew that going in. I ended up selling it and sticking to my MIDI keyboard and soft synths. For a third of the price, I get much more use out of it. A hardcore synth nerd would probably get a lot more joy out of the MicroKORG than I did, once they delved into the nitty-gritty of it. It's not really suitable for a casual like myself.

Got this for my son's 16th. Awesome starter synth. Love the new "tape" samples on this modle. The sound quality is rich and vibrant with many of the classic Korg samples.

This little thing bring us back. It is among top ten must have and its stunds on its own. You can basically create your own sounds and it's great for creating from ambient and maybe you are in a rock band. I am so happy. To tell the truth I have always been a little bit sceptical about this thing, but after that I've been working on the project a friend suggested that I should use the microkorg and I did it and its so much more to explore on Microkorg. Thanks! I did get the package on time..even earlier then expected;)

I've been wanting to get this thing for awhile now, and now that I have it, and as an aspiring electronic musician it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. This is my first hardware synth, I've had it for a couple days now and I can't stop playing with it. Although I do plan on making songs with it as the lead once I get an audio interface, just tweaking the sounds and making beats is a blast. I found it extremely easy to use and figure out, since I've had experience with software synths and I've watched a lot of videos on the microKORG. So if you have some basic synthesizer/sound design knowledge you should have no trouble figuring this thing out just by playing around with it. The only thing I've had to refer to the manual for so far is how to turn off the write protection so I could save my own sounds, which was no trouble at all. The microKORG has 128 preset sounds (including vocoder), all of which can be tweaked in just about any way you can think of. They range from standard trance/techno sounds to huge bass sounds to ambient and experimental stuff, pretty much anything a (starting) electronic producer might want. With 128 presets and tons of settings to tweak, there's always new stuff to come up with. Before when I only used software synths I usually ran out of ideas for songs and beats, but I can mess around on this thing for a couple minutes and ideas just pop into my head. As for the hardware itself, the microKORG is built very nicely, it doesn't feel at all cheap. The microphone for the vocoder is alright, although it can be a bit wobbly and it will give feedback if you have it too loud. So if you plan on really using the vocoder a lot (I don't), you might wanna consider a better microphone. Overall, this is probably the best entry-level synthesizer out there, for every reason. Although I absolutely recommend it, I recommend it for people who have basic knowledge of synthesizers. If you have no idea how a synthesizer works and you never used a software synth, I would recommend learning about synthesizers and how they work before buying a hardware synth. Even $400 is a big investment. So I definitely recommend this, as long as you're confident that it's going to do what you think it's going to do. As long as you know what you're getting into, this is a great purchase.
