Burg Wächter Gate & Railing Box

This is pretty much the only solution available for fitting a mailbox behind a gate or fence, with a rear door for access. It is generally well finished powder coated steel and fairly robust. It arrived well packed and damage free.It weighs 8.9kgs and was cumbersome to fit. To avoid damaging the powder coating, installation is best a two man job. Otherwise I struggled a bit and used nylon tiewraps to temporarily lash the horizontal bars to the outside of the gate (threaded studs facing towards the property), but then you have to mount the steel box over four threaded studs before reaching inside to tighten the nuts inside the mailbox. So it's best to have someone else guide and hold the box in place while you tighten the nuts inside, or there's a risk of it slipping off and maybe damage the paint.I added some M6 washers (not supplied), and you might consider using wing nuts instead. Once tightened up, the mailbox was totally secure. I sourced a separate black vinyl label 100 x 50mm saying 'Post' in white (in the Post Office typeface) off the internet, for a smart finish.The only issue was getting the postie to close the flap down again, it is not spring loaded and was initially left half open. But the mail inside is pretty secure. A rubber surround seals most of the rear door though there are some small gaps by the hinges, no sign of rain getting in yet. There are drainage holes. We'll have to see how rust resistant it is. It's made in China. Overall a neat solution, definitely best fitted with extra help.

I bought this for our business gates. It was easy to fit although we used more screws it turned out great. We’re often away from the premises for long periods and the size is excellent for this.The product arrived well packaged and on time.

Its an expensive box but it does the job very well. I have no problems with water getting inside & it rains here a lot! Easy to install and it has a substanial opening for letters & small packages to be easily deposited inside. Its a heavy duty box and feels very good quality, so im sure it will last years.

Delivered quickly, and just what was needed for my post delivery.

Water enters the post box in 2 places which soaks any letters lying on the bottom of the box.Water enters around the letterbox where it is spot welded and not weather sealed at all. Also the design of the door is poor as it is external to the main body of the box and should be recessed the seal is poor and water enters around the access door.I will have to modify this to make more secure and waterproof.Not happy

Water leaks in when it’s rains

Taken on comments about leaking door and now adds seal. This is missing near hinge. Will check and add if needed. Otherwise easy to install with hidden bolts inside box. Seems well made and finished.

This product is good, BUT the opening is small and only suitable for letters. It would be much more useful if the opening could accommodate small parcels.
