Simple, Easy Fun!
Big Brain academy was first released on DS years ago and entertained many people by being a simplier - yet more fun - version of Dr Kawashima's brain training. This one is suitable for kids and sets tasks to the player such as remembering sounds, figuring out a simple water and pipe puzzle, or computing some hard maths. This game is fun and easy to play - and even challenging for both adults and children alike. The graphical features come in child-like illustrations and I think this is what put most adults off; let me say, that when this was first released, I imported it from Japan and had a ball. My nieces and nephews loved playing this game. I even brought the English version a few weeks ago from Amazon as the game is great fun to play and I had unfortunately lost my previous version. The game features 5 sections - such as compute (mental problems) and memorise (memory puzzles) - and you are rated in these sections by 'weight' (bare with me).. these weights are then added together to give you a total weight and grade on your brain and its performance. You are then graded on this weight - and given a shiny medal to show off on your profile. Sme fo the problems to solve for platinum medals are also hard! This sounds ever-so-familiar with the likes of the 'training' series and Kawashima's games on DS, but I have always preferred this version. Even as an adult, I still haven't gotten all of the platinum medals, and the game is good for a quick 10 minute blast - when on short commutes or even (sorry!) on the toilet. This game was great on release and is great now, ad for the price, you can't really go wrong! If you enjoy taxing brain games, and if you have children to join the ride - I would recommend this as its fun, cheap and simple to play. Good stuff! 4****

Grow Your Brain!
This game is so much fun! I bought this for my wife and she hasn't stopped using it. The game is so addictive! There are various exercises which are all aimed at working out your "brain age" - dependant on how well you score in the game itself. You have to do well to unlock other features within the game - hence why this game is so addictive. I would disagree with other reviewers who say the games are repetitive. Not only is it suitable for children , but everyone can take part, and you do feel as if you are training your brain - albeit I am not convinced it actually does. Loads of fun - highly recommended!

Like 'Brain Training' but more fun
Having used `Brain Training', my sole reason for getting a DS, and being very impressed by it I decided to get this one too to add a bit of variety. It is good and well worth the money. It compares pretty well to 'Brian Training' and `More Brain Training' but is less serious and a fair bit more fun. If you liked `Brain Training' you will probably like this one. I think this is more suitable for young children than `Brain Training' and `More Brain Training', my boys (9 and 2) love it. I think that `Brain Training' and `More Brain Training' are probably better for you, purely subjective opinion here with no hard evidence to back it up, but we found this more fun. Of the three it was this one that really got us hooked.

Brain bending
I treated myself to the DSi XL and bought this game as i had tried it on my nephews DS. Boxing Day was a frustrating day for the members of my family as we all tried to outdo each other and improve our score! There are many training modes and then you get tested to see if you have improved at all! Very frustrating as your brain is 'weighed' and the more your brain weighs the better your score, but you have to constantly improve to get the gold medal. Ideal for anyone with a mushy brain who wants a mental challenge! Great fun! Arrived quickly and was well packaged so no damage to the item.

DONT WAS YOUR MONEY
GAME WAS RUBBISH, BORING, AND NOT FOR THE RATED 3 YEAR OLD. MY SON REALLY STRUGGLED WITH IT AND HE IS GOOD ON THE DS

Big Brain Academy - its okay.
I bought this game second hand off Amazon so it did not come with any manual and the cartridge itself was very tatty, with the sticker mostly scratched off. However the game works fine. It is not as sleek as the original Brain Trainers, and for some reason the appearance of the little character of the Professor is to me, not a pleasant one. The games themselves are moderately fun but this has not gripped me the way other games I have bought are, it will pass 15 mins or so but no matter how awfully I do or how far my "brain weight" is away from the norm, it tells me I am doing great. Very odd. This game just has not appealed to me since receiving it.

Pretty good, but not quite what I was after.
I bought this product with the intention of using it to improve my rusty mathematical skills as I am a dyscalculia sufferer and will try anything to improve. The game is pretty simple with a basic user interface - no fancy graphics or anything. A younger child would probably need adult supervision to help them properly grasp what each minigame requires them to do, as the instructions given are basic and brief. The games go from easy to surprisingly hard - hard enough that they are challenging for an adult who is out of practice. The game doesn't focus on maths as much as I'd have liked, but the other areas it covers are handy too so I'll get use out of it.

Thinking. Analyzing. Solving Problems. Logic. These are just some of the skills that Big brain Academy will help you develop (or re-develop). No, it's not Resident Evil or Splinter Cell. But it is as fun and addictive; it's certainly as challenging if not more challenging, and it's a nice pallet cleanser from the plethora of pure entertainment value games that my kids and I play. Big Brain Academy is a bit advanced at times for my grade schoolers, but the parts that they do get really help them develop the skills that they are concurrently working on in school. There's a daily practice area that gives your skills a workout. And there's a test area that challenges you to quickly and accurately work through various tasks, then provides you with a grade based on how well you did on the test. Kids reading this will NO vote me to death for saying this, but this is a great game for parents to get for their kids. It's one of the only ones (Brain Age is the other) that I never take away from my own kids when they've misbehaved or simply just had too much video gaming. They never complain. Addictive fun. Buy it.
