First get a separate water container and soak the rocksSecond decant into a water bottle and use that to fill the bowl fromThis works brilliantly but you can not pit rocks in bowl with fresh water. They have to soak.We have a small container with a spigot and a glass water bottle. We fill container add rocks and next day fill bottle. Top up container and three days later refill the glass bottle. ( we have small dogs who drink less )My lawn is lush

Bought these to sumplement my exisitng rock with which I was very happy.Campingaz Lava Rock BBQ Accessory - 3 KgThere is no disenrable difference that I can tell or have noticed.Nice evenly sized stones about the size of your avaerage briquette.They heat well, hold it it long enough and disapate it evenly.Have found they produce a nice authentic bbq flavour with all of the smoke etc you want but with little of the flame etc that you dont.Once hot I am able to reduce the flame size required to keep them warm using less gas than I did previously when no rock was in use.The addition of one box (3 Kg) to the exiasiting 3kg box worth a;reasdy in use gave me a nice even coverage on a 3 burner grill.Very happy with these and find it hard to tell the difference to between using these or charcoal.All in all a very satisfactory product and availab le at very reasonable price if you are willing to wait for stock and delivery.I managed to get two boxes of this for less than the copst of one from many other suppliers and less than the price of postage from a lot of others.

Bit expensive but does a good job

The Lava rocks do exactly what they say on the bag. They stay hot, reducing the need to keep the cylinder gas turned on for longer. This in turn means burning less gas, healthier for the environment, and also reduces financial cost with the cylinder gas lasting longer.

Without getting the whole gas versus charcoal BBQ debate, these lava rocks serve my gas one ideally. It is normally recommended to change the rocks yearly, but of course it quite simply depends on how much you use your BBQ!These rocks certainly do not give off any unpleasant aromas, gasses etc., so there's nothing to worry about regarding your foodstuffs being tainted with bitter flavours. I have found the opposite in that so long as you build up a couple of layers in the tray (preventing any direct flames bursting through), flavours are enhanced. Quantity wise it's difficult to say how many boxes to buy but better to have more than less. I have found them to be a good quality, and unlike some they do not simply disintegrate after a couple of cooks. It's also worthwhile every now and then moving them from the top to the bottom of the rack to help with longevity.Happy cooking!

Good product, as described. Approx 50% of rocks are solid with few if any holes. I believe this is a form of lava called Rhyolite which could easily be mistaken for mere stones. Some quite large crystals in my batch and the rocks range in colour from black, through pink, to beige. Almost too good to burn. Recommended.

I bought 3 packs for my large BBQ, which were not quite enough despite being 9kgs, worth. However the issue here is that the lava rocks are of a very mixed size, ranging from quite large chunks to small pieces which fall through the bars of the basket. More problematic however is that not all of these are lava rock - about 1/3rd seems to be just general stones. This is an inexpensive purchase but I relied on the brand name for a better quality product. It must be possible to buy better even if the apparent cost is higher....
