Decent quality kit
This is a decent kit with instructions on how to install it. I used it to replace an existing (failed) kit and it works just fine. I have now ordered a second kit to install on different down pipe. For a square kit on a round pipe it is pretty discreet and we are pleased with the result

Not really fit for purpose.
I purchased this item because it was in white and not black as is often the case. Unfortunately apart from it being quite expensive for what it is, the item itself has many problems. Most of these fittings have a square sleeve on both sides of the water butt take off pipe and only require the down spout to be sawn in half at the appropriate position and the two halves inserted into the fitting to complete the job. The one I received however has a square sleeve on one side only and a cylindrical spigot on the other end, (unlike the sellers photo) this means that you need to cut the down spout very carefully to ensure it is square otherwise when it butts up against the flat underside of the top section it will look a mess as the cut joint is not covered up by the fitting. Secondly the round end is too slack of a fit in the lower square section of down spout and requires considerable packing by wrapping tape around it to stop it from falling away from the top section when stood in the vertical position. Worst of all is the fact that due to the poor fit and lack of an outside sleeve to keep both sections in line, it has a tendency to dog leg quite badly and required a packing piece inserted between it and the wall to make it look straight again. Finally the flexible pipe is only 400mm long and it is barely long enough for most applications. I am sure that it will probably do the job and fill the rain barrel, but it required far too much fiddling about for most DIY-ers for what should have been a simple job.

Does what it says on the lable!
A good value item. Having moved to an area where water is metered, rainwater is now a valuable commodity. It is easy to fit, needing only a hacksaw to cut the existing down pipe and a screwdriver to loosen the pipe fixings while fitting the unit. The only thing to watch is the position of the unit relative to the water butt, but follow the instructions enclosed.G.S. The Cinderella of rain water diverters
Why does everyone sell black rain diverters and you have to buy white ones on line. I am beginning to question how much of the rainwater is actually diverted (30%?) and have set up an experiment to take the down pipe directly into the barrel and use the diverter inlet as the barrel overflow point to the remainder of the down pipe, effectively ignoring the rain diverter unit although using the fittings. Since the water companies currently charge about £4 for a 1,000 litres of water (including supply and sewerage) what is the true payback period if one invests in a new water barrel which is only likely to hold 100-200 litres? I applaud the idea of recycling but how cost effective is it really? I worked out that using a handheld hose I can do the key garden areas with 300 litres of water in under 30 minutes. This is equivalent to 60 watering cans worth (assuming 5 litres per can) if taken from the barrels. Assuming you had sufficient water in barrels, how long is this likely to take?

master plastics sell the one in the picture
master plastics actually suppy the one in the picture (square section from top to bottom, BOTH ends fitting over the downpipe) which is the easiest to fit, best-looking, and strongest structurally (all other styles seem to wobble, requiring an extra wall bracket just below the divertor). very happy with my purchase.

Ok for rectangular downpipes
This does the job for our new white rectangular downpipes. However these diverters all suffer from the same design flaw which requires the entry in the water butt to be exactly between the top & overflow within the diverter. Also at risk of blocking the downpipe if you get a lot of leaves as we do.Why cant we just direct 100% of the water from the downpipe into the water butt and fit an overflow going back into the lower section of the downpipe. I've never seen one for sale but would certainly buy it if they existed.

Such a simple idea and easy fit.
I have already fitted this product and it is working perfectly well. Such a simple idea and so easy to fit. I will be able to water all my pot plants with rain water at closer to air temperature instead of very cold tap water. I grow runner beans in pots so I will be ableto pamper them now.

Failed flexible pipe
Reviewing this well after purchase date - can't remember how long we've had it - to say that the flexible pipe has now perished, with cracks all along its length. Have had to replace it but find that alternatives are 1" diameter so don't fit this. Just hope the diverter itself doesn't suffer the same problem.
