Andre Rieu - The Homecoming

Wonderful uplifting music and show !Arrived on time .However , 2 other DVD s by Andre Riou sold by Amazon which I ordered are still not shipped yet , not sure why the difference in services , one DVD arrived in 2 days and the other 2 are still pending after 5 days ?

Great music

This is my all-time favorite Andre Rieu concert DVD. He is a 'home town hero' in Maastricht and it really is moving to see how he loves the city and his neighbors love him. On our travels we have actually been in this square, now magically transformed for a live concert by an impressive stage set. Many members of his orchestra are also from the area. For all of them, this is a special homecoming and they seem enthusiastic to share their talents with a wider audience.Two absolutely magical offerings are provided by the local bell-ringer, who is also a regular member of Andre's orchestra. His scenes of 'dashing to and from' the bell tower to perform on one segment have to be seen! A great local voice, Benny ***, sings his great composition, 'Ode to Maastrict' and there is not a dry eye in the place. His performance is a 'shiver-making moment' seldom equaled on DVD. Once again, Rieu offers the 'Radetzky March', an ever-popular signature piece on several of his other DVDs. Other works presented are less often heard but are long-time favorites in the classical music world or in Broadway music theater. The production values are 'first class' and the whole experience makes one feel like one was present during a magical evening.The 'extras' on the DVD are eye-opening in revealing the multitude of steps it takes to put on a show like this and to record it for DVD.If you are only buying one Rieu DVD, this should be it. But why stop there?

I saw a portion of this video quite by accident and decided that I would buy it. It was superb absolutely mesmerising. Andre Rieu's showmanship, creativity, sense of humor and talent is captivating. This performance is one of the happiest performances I have ever seen. The young gentleman who rings the church bell and plays the chimes was delightfully funny and a great addition to the show. I hate to admit I can never remember what his profession and skill is called. The costumes of the orchestra, the wonderful blue lights of the square, the happy smiles, and dancing audience also lend a wonderful and an almost heavenly air to the staging of this concert. Wonderful just wonderful!Trust me, Dolby or not it is a very satisfying buy. Pop the wine or champaign and relax with this one!

None of your readers mentioned BENNY NEYMAN, who appears as the mystery guest on this magnifient DVD.Benny is an aging (but gracefully) 56 year old tenor, a Dutch hero and very famous especialy in hs hometown of Maastricht where this DVD was recorded. Benny is a cross between Frank Sinatra/ Julio Iglesias and Charles Aznevour. at all stages of his career. He is still doing concerts all over Europe. I am an 80 year old grandmother and this composer/singer really turns me on. This DVD is worth buying for Benny's 10 minutes alone but the whole concert is en enthusiastic beautiful version of life, Maastricht style with huge audience participation and an international treat. Andre Rieu brings so much joy to his music. I commend him and all of his DVD's. Bettie Magee Natick, Massachusetts, USA

This concert was performed in the open in Maastricht. The music, as always, is delightful. The interplay between the performers and the audience is great fun, remember that this is Andre's hometown and many of the audience know him or his family. The orchestra is very accomplished and very entertaining. The DVD also includes a TV program chronicling the set-up and some of the post performance events.For the Andre Rieu fan, this is a great experience. For someone who doesn't know Andre and his orchestra this will be a great introduction.If you enjoy opera music well performed and Strauss waltzes and a bit of whimsy to boot, then you will almost certainly enjoy this DVD.

The hole in the center of the dvd....was OFF-CENTER! Would not play and made a horrible noise. Thankfully, it didn't harm our dvd player....and that we didn't pay a LOT for it! It is going into the trash.
