Good format, amazing photographs, useful information - a perfect guide
The media could not be loaded. I think DK Eyewitness are my favorite travel guides. I own a few, from pocket city guides to slightly larger formats. Each has what in my opinion every guide should - a perfect balance between useful information and stunning photographs. This particular one covers one of the most picturesque regions of the USA - the Southwestern part. It includes landmarks such as the Grand Canyon and the Four Corners, states like Arizona, Southern Utah and New Mexico as well as some largest cities - Phoenix, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and of course Las Vegas. As mentioned - the photographs are amazing. Makes you want to be there instantly. Almost every page has smaller or bigger ones. I like that they have short descriptions next to them. The guide is split into 3 main sections.Discover is the first part, giving you an introduction to the guide and the region, from casual information, through history, calendar of main events throughout the year, to suggestions of travel itineraries of various length.Experience is the main part, split mainly by states, with a separate chapter for Las Vegas alone. You'll find lots of information about places to visit, stay and eat at. I like that they don't include prices, which tend to change on an almost daily basis. Instead you get $ avatars - the more the place has, the more expensive it is. There are of course links to web pages, addresses and opening times where possible.Third section is the Need to Know, and is the only one without photographs. Because it's packed with all sorts of useful information, from planning the trip to moving around, typical prices of beverage and transport etc. It's essential info only, so best to read this part before you go.The book has 289 pages and is printed on a high quality, but still ecological paper (Forest Stewardship Council certified). There are maps of the region on the insides of the front and back cover, as well as some more detailed maps of places inside the book. Of course you can find the index in the end pages. For £14 this guide is totally worth getting. Even to learn about the region and see the stunning photographs, let alone travel there. A really amazing guide - I'm highly recommending it.Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

This very much a book of what to do
Eyewitness Southwest USA and National Parks guide containing numerous pictures and maps and is divided into 7 sections. This book is focused on what to do when you are in each area covered by the book. It’s gives suggestions of lots of different activities and places to see along the way, as well as some itineraries.Taking Las Vegas as an example (which I have visited more than once) it gives a good overview of all the key tourist sites but does not suggest some of the lesser known or more quirky ones.Opening times and locations are included but no prices. There are food suggestions but this is more a token comment here and there, with the same for hotels & other accommodation. At the back of the book is a selection of useful to know items which are handy.A good guide for planning sightseeing but you need a little more information for planning accommodation and travel options.I hope you found this review helpful.

Really good travel guide
This is a really good travel guide that includes a lot of information which is crams into a fairly small book. We are planning a trip to this part of the world in a couple of years and are already enjoying finding out places that we can visit. Five stars.
