I would suggest that the reader have a basic knowledge of hieroglyphs before studying with this one. Review: Bought for fun. - I was pleasantly surprised by this book, the presentation of Egyptian was surprisingly easy to follow and understand without being academic at all, a nice easy introduction, only been through first two chapters which are reasonably sized. However over 300 different hieroglyphics will be presented in this book so it could take quite a while to learn though I'm sure many be be related and not totally different plus the author does a very good job of presenting a hieroglyph with a little background so it's easier to remember. The pronounciation is not at all difficult and one need not be too exact anyway because this is Ancient Egyptian after all. Can't wait to impress some friends and read some Egyptian to them while at a museum, or even the museum curator even lol. Really good book and the author has done a very good job of presenting what's traditionally considered a difficult subject. Oh, and Teach Yourself have really improved the quality of their books in this new series, about time but thanks to them for that. Not too technical and carefully takes you from one stage to the next.
