Why would the description say "full tang" when it's very clear from the cut-a-way picture that this knife is NOT full tang?

Because the knife that you're looking at, on the right of the picture, is labeled "the competition". The knife on the left is the Oden which is clearly full tang. Hope that helps.

How thick is the blade?

It is thick enough. It’s not as thick as a bk2 But it is easy to sharpen, holds an edge well.440c Is underrated. I am well pleased especially for the price.
