Unreal combat, a real challenge but incredibly rewarding
NIOH is a game that shares very similar traits to another franchise you may be familiar with call Dark Souls although I don't like to compare them but they are similar in a few aspects one being this game is incredibly challenging. You will die alot but it won't be anyone's fault other than your own. You need to be very quick and precise with your attack and defensive play.Leveling up your character also has alot of depth and you will constantly be equipping new pieces of armour on a regular basis and finding new weapons to bring down large foes. The visuals are very nice all in all a well rounded looking game but nothing to really get to excited about I feel the game is more focused on gameplay and atmosphere but overall a very nice looking game still. The reason I say the gameplay is so good is because you have 3 different attacking stances with all the different weapon type ranging from high to medium and low. This really shakes up combat when attacking enemies and makes a huge difference to just hacking and slashing opponents. To conclude all I can really say is I'm thoroughly enjoying this title and I can't wait to see the end game, even if it does take me a lifetime because the games so dam hard!! If your up for a real challenge give this a go and don't be affraid to fail (die). You will always find the game is fair when you die it doesn't try to cheat you at all.

Witcher in Japan!
I really like this game. The characters are great, the story is fun to follow and combat is so satisfying. The game is difficult, you will die A LOT. But just like is Souls games you come to terms with this inevitability and it becomes part of the gameplay. That said, this is not a Souls game. It is not open world, the levels are quite linear and there is a strict storyline structure. There is also a lot more assistance and hints that you will not find in Souls where you need to discover everything yourself. If you like story driven games you will enjoy this more than Souls. Also unlike in Souls, loot drops from everything, there is so much loot. In this aspect, the game feels like Diablo. The character progression is very satisfying, there are a lot of traits to learn and you really feel how your character becomes stronger. Many different ways to customise gameplay to your liking starting with straight forward swordsman to more subtle ninja or even magic based builds. And the main character looks like Geralt fighting monsters in Japan, what’s not to like?

A lot of influence from the souls series but Nioh is its own game
If you enjoyed any of the following games then yes you should consider buying this - Dark souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne, Diablo.Having said that you shouldn't go into this game expecting it to play exactly like dark souls. Its not made by the same people so you shouldn't make that assumption. In my opinion the fact that its a little different is a good thing. So i'll highlight some of the main differences.COMBATWhile the souls series in my opinion has a more methodical and slower combat system Nioh's is faster paced with a little more variation. For starters you have 3 stances when wielding a weapon - Low, Mid and high, each one giving a different form of attack and you'll need to switch your stance on the fly depending on the situation. Using just one stance wont get you very far in this game.Next you have the stamina bar or as its called in this game "Ki" - Your enemies also have a stamina bar which you'll be able to see. This adds a lot more depth into the combat system as you'll need to know when to block, when to dodge, and when to attack and while the combat in this game is faster paced if you go in spamming the attack button you'll be dead within a few seconds.Even at level 160 some of the stronger enemies can take me out in two to three hits if i'm not paying attention so there's definitely enough challenge here. There's several types of different weapons you can get in this game, Axes, Spears, Katanas, Dual Katanas, Kusarigama (Chain and sickle) each having different attack patterns and upgradeable skills/combos which if you learn how to use them effectively make your character much stronger. In addition to that you can learn magic and ninja skills depending on what kind of build you are going for.GAMEPLAYIn a similar fashion to the souls series you make your way through each area and at the end there's a boss fight. Along the way you'll find shrines which are essentially where you save your progress and also have the chance to level up (Using a shrine respawns all the enemies) There's also shortcuts you can unlock so if you do die you don't have to make it through the entire stage again.Enemy variation is ok although i feel especially during the early stages it could have been a little more varied but each type of enemy all have different attacks and require you to approach them differently so overall not bad.Boss fights are fairly challenging and can take several attempts to beat until you become familiar with their attack pattern. For me some of the hardest bosses were at the beginning of the game because i was so under leveled. By the time i got towards the end of the game my character had learned a lot of skills so i had a better advantage.LOOT - There are 5 different types of rarity when it comes to finding weapons and armor (White, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Green). In a way it reminds me of Diablo waiting for a good purple or green item to drop. Makes it that little more addicting playing the game looking for the perfect weapon. Having said that items possibly drop a little more than they should and the differences in each weapons/armors traits can be minor. I would have preferred quality over quantity perhaps.Another welcome change is there is no item durability in this game. Your weapons and armor simply wont break and you don't have to continuously repair them like in most other RPG's. For me this is good because i always saw that as an inconvenience in games. It was never fun to constantly have to repair equipment all the time.In addition to that you also get a lot of inventory space (500 slots i think) and if you are carrying too much of a certain item it automatically gets sent to your storehouse so you can equip it at the end of the level. No more having to constantly drop items just so you can carry something else.ARMOR/WEAPON CUSTOMIZATION - Another thing Nioh does well is the ability to customize how your equipment looks. For instance maybe you find a really good armor set or weapon but don't like the look of it. You can refashion it to look like a different armor set quite inexpensively. You can even do this quite early on in the game.GRAPHICSVisually this game is fairly good in terms of graphics. There's nothing mind blowing here but its certainly passable. In my opinion the scenery and visuals are a bit more colourful and vibrant than in the souls series which i personally like. Also i was playing it on the original PS4 so it probably looks better if you have a PS4 Pro.STORYIn all honesty im not really sure what was going on half the time. Cut-scenes will often introduce new characters with no clear explanation of their backstory, their motivations or why they're important. But on the plus side there's a talking Cat so there's that..Luckily i didn't find this an issue as i was enjoying the gameplay so much.Overall if you like any of the games i mentioned at the start and you are a fan of RPG's then i would recommend you give this a chance.

Good graphics standard game play
horrible game the movement of the character is poor. The camera angles feel like dynasty or samurai warriors and the start just throws you into a dungeon. It doesn't give you the thrill of trying to escape it just simply feels like you have to do it for the sake of it.If your going to have a combat system do it so the camera sees all and let's you move in a fluent way. The only way to lock on is to lock onto everyone as an individual. It's poor and doesn't give you an option to parry and counter. Just simply to block. This is a very accurate opinion of mine as never have I played a game that has no reason for starting. There is no tense moment only aggravation. I will play this game sell the way through and if anything changes I will change the review. A poor start in a game is usually a template for things yer to come. I just read someone say candidate for game of the year. This is laughable with the release of mass effect, horizon and for honour I think it's a standard game for team ninja. Consider how ninja gaiden started it gave you a sense of purpose to stop the enemy and save people. Thus is just average.Wait until it goes down in price as it's not worth the price it's asking for.

Ottimo gioco
