Gospel Favourites

I was looking for gospel records when I saw this in Amazon, and bought it after some hesitation. I'm not a rock'n roll or Elvis fan, so all my Elvis' memories are of a depressive fat guy dressed in fancy clothes and slave to several drug cocktails. I didn't know about his fervient gospel work and recordings, which in fact got him several Emmys.My doubts were proved stupid, because this is a very good gospel record, and a very good example of Elvis' work.His voice is mellow, deep, and above all, understanding and feeling of the songs and themes he sings. You can hear in them a man of faith, even if (or perhaps because of that) life took him far from the small, familial chapels he sings about. Some of the themes are classical gospel songs, some are arrangements of other themes, and all of them are adapted by Elvis to his own style and liking. The only negative comment on this record is about the one song I don't like, the most melodious, recitative "I believe".The CD comes with a booklet describing Elvis' gospel background, his involvement in recordings and revivals and, all in all, makes this a very good piece of gospel music, which also will make you listen to good King's songs. Cheap, too.Buy it, listen to it, give it as a present.

Brilliant album

Elvis enjoyed gospel singing and you can sense the respect he had for theses songs. Great.

The man who virtually invented modern pop music loved singing gospel songs the most and it is incredible how sincere and melodic his renditions of gospel classics are in this deeply personal album.

Whether or not you like Elvis Presley as a performer, if you are a Christian you’re going to love this album

I love Elvis Presley but I didn't love all the songs on the CD. I think in the "olden days" it was probably ok to slur the notes but to a modern ear it grates!! I sing along to the hymns and songs I like and fast forward through the songs he drags out and scoops from one note to another!!

I.d lost my cd and ordered this as it shows what a wonderful voice he has.

It was for a present but the person enjoyed it. Alot of elvis favourites and uk people know.

Ce n'était que splendide ..? Non ! Ça l'est toujours, cela le restera et qu'on se le dise !En guise de préambule.Quand j'ai vu pour ma première fois à la télévision " Jailhouse Rock" ce fut un moment inoubliable et comme à cette époque il n'y avait pas trente-six chaînes. Le téléviseur chez-nous c'est Madame qui gère, avec ses centaines de chaînes qui servent à quoi ? Le temps de regarder le programme cela prend toute la nuit !!! Alors au temps ou "Jailhouse Rock" à la télé et bien ma fois nous en parlions le lendemain entre copains. C'était en quelque sorte un lien social... Je sais que la "box" de Marlène s'arrête à 999 ! Pour le reste cela sera sans doute pour bientôt..._______________________________________________________________Ce disque est un vrai révélateur ! Le gospel !"Take my Hand, Precious Lord" 1957. Nul besoin de traduire.."I Believe" 1957 Elvis se dévoile." It's Not Secret ( What God Can Do" 1957Puis vient un chant présent dans de très nombreuses chorales d'aujourd'hui en 2017 " Amazing Grace" qui lorsque nous l'entendons ne serait-ce qu'une seule fois dans notre vie reste à jamais gravé dans notre mémoire.Et là Elvis a la voix pour ce chant (dont nous ne connaissons pas l'auteur réel, origine britannique, c'est tout ce que l'on sait vraiment, comme "Autumn Leaves" non présent ici.. Que du bonheur ! Croyant ou pas ce chant est magnifique.20 Titres que vous n'oublierais jamais enregistrés de 1957 pour le plus grand nombre.Cela fait 40 ans que 'The King" nous a quitté presque jour pour jour, mais c'est éternellement que nous l’écouterons.Ce disque est indispensable dans toute bonne CD-thèque.Sincèrement, nous avons chanté tous les deux, Marlène et moi un grand nombre de titres avec Elvis sur ce disque, et tant pis our ceux qui nous prendraient pour des fous ou des ringards. Elvis... il est éternel, c'est tout !

If You looking for a Beautiful Voice to sing these beautiful hymns ,you can blindly pick 2 All Time Great Artist and Vocalist.One is Jim Reeves and another one is Elvis Presley ... And Plus if the sound recording is amazing, then it truly sounds heavenly.... And Yes the sound recording is very good has it is an imported CD.... Elvis has written many Gospel hymns and these are few has they haven't added the best but still a good CD for your collection.... TO CONCLUDE WITH A VALUABLE TIP .... Has Anytime before I purchase any music CD I go search on Google and check as well as play all the song tracks of the music CD I'm so eager to purchase.And out of 15 , if 11 to 12 tracks are really good I go for it as well as most importantly I check out the price is worth I'm paying for .
