I'm thrilled to have this set of books for homeschooling my special needs child!They're set up to lay a strong foundation in minimal time compared to current school curriculums as back in the day children had to be ready for the workforce by age 14.With the indoctrination of other people's ideals in schools, I'm thankful this set doesn't force that through even seemingly harmless examples like I've found in other educational material.NOTE: This particular set does have the original Christian references BUT there are versions of McGuffy that do not, so be mindful when buying which you prefer.

My grandparents and parents both learned with the McGuffy Readers. I even read them when I was small. In their day, young men were expected to enter the workforce at about age 12 or 13. They needed to know the basics: reading, writing, ciphers (math), and cultural history. The Readers did the job for millions. I gave a set to each of my daughters. If the grid goes dark, they can teach my grandchildren...

Through my research I was reminded of how I started reading with this exact set of books. I made my way to Amazon and was thrilled to purchase. It’s been about 3 weeks that we’ve been using the books now. My son is enjoying reading from them! It’s such a relief that he’s actually enjoying reading practice! That’s how I remember learning to read with these books too. The simplicity of the large letters, small words, and lovely pictures really helps solidify early reading.

A high quality set of textbooks used for homeschool education. My son was having trouble reading and these books were instrumental in bringing him up to grade level standards.The pictoral reader is excellent as it creates word association in a clean and quick manner. As one progresses through the advancing levels, it becomes abundantly clear as to the exact depths of lowering standards that the public school system has when compared to prior generations.10/10 would buy again if needed to replace.

I really wanted to like this . I was so excited to receive this in the mail, but once I looked at some of the stories featured in the readers I was not thrilled.The return was easy.

This product is an early version of private education that expresses Christian values that are currently under vicious assault by the left and it's associated media hacks. I wanted these books before Amazon decided that they were somehow detrimental to society and stopped making them available. They are excellent character building books that promote basic morality, self-reliance, and freedom.

Very pleased with this set, it’s easy and comprehensive and it’s been fun to both teach and learn.
