Sorel Mens Caribou XT boots disappointment
I am sad to say that I am very disappointed with my new Sorel mens Caribou boots. I have owned a pair of Sorel boots, which were made in Canada, for over 30 years. They developed holes near the sole at the rear of the boots and I decided to purchase a new pair, which are made in China. They arrived and was very anxious to try them. I saved the old pair until I could try on the new pair. The new pair cost me $160. Well it snowed a lot here in PA and I got the chance to wear the new boots. I was very happy I choose the right size and the fit is great. My trouble started when being outside my mid lower legs began to sting. I paid no attention to it at first since it was a minor pain. After coming in from clearing snow, I removed the boots and found that the upper most portion of the liners had dug into the sides of my legs. There was some bleeding and, more than anything else, disappointment this happened the first time I wore the new boots. I realized then my old boots had a much different, and in my opinion, better, inner removable liner. The old liner had a soft transition at the top of the opening. This meant that where the liner ends, it gradually leaves contact with your skin. The new liner does not have this transition area. It abruptly ends, and the top of the boot pushes against the top of the liner, which then directly pushes against your skin. The more you move, the more it digs in. My old boots could be worn for hours without a hint of discomfort. My disappointment continued after contacting Sorel direct, which is whom I purchased the boots from directly. I sent photos of my injuries and just wanted a replacement set of liners that would not cut in to my skin. I was told to send in my liners for evaluation. After being told to send in my liners, I read the return policy and found that it listed returns would be processed within 4 to 6 weeks. I only asked for a new set of liners and could have easily sent in my old ones later. I decided I could not be without any boots for that long, especially in the middle of winter.I received an email with a survey and wrote that I was not satisfied with the service so far.Sadly, I had thrown away my old pair of boots the same morning I started to wear the new boots because they fit so well. So sending in my new boots meant going without any for up to 6 weeks. As I was writing one of my responses, it started to snow. Then I said I would just send in my boots for a refund. I was then told I could not since their warranty system was down. Looks like I am unable to get this issue addressed properly with a company I thought of highly. Before buying any other boots, I will pay close attention to the top area of the boot and liner to make sure there is adequate transition area. I will not make the mistake of buying boots without an adequate transition area again. The first photo shows my old pair of Sorel boots which were made in Canada. Even with holes, I should never have thrown them away : (The second photo shows the new pair and my injury to my right leg.The third photo shows the label within the new pair of Sorel boots made in China.

The Caribou XT is larger than other Sorel boots...
First and foremost, the Caribou XT boot is larger than typical Sorel boots FYI. I wear a size 8.5 tennis shoe/8 in usual boots and after trying on a size 8 and a size 7 in these, the 7's fit my 8.5 feet perfectly!! the width and length totally dwarfs any boot you probably already own, but the boot is snug (provided you got a correct size regardless of thick/thin wool socks) and flexible. I absolutely love the ease of removing these, just one flex at the lace upper and the boots open up for removal. At first i thought the separate inside liner was a bit weird, but its a great feature if you ever need to replace the liner years later without having to buy a new boot if you happen to wear out the inside sole etc. My only issue is the boots stiffness on foot bends but maybe i just need to break them in more. I bought these for my cold travels, will be wearing them on a zodiac boat in Antarctica soon and sometime in Alaska as well, shall see how they live up to water resistance. Speaking of which alotta misunderstanding about this boot, it is labeled as "water-resistant" not "water-proof" on their site, if youre looking for waterproof get any other Sorel i suppose. Anyway, the boots look great, more techy and less lumberjack if thats your steez and have the added height for snowpants not to drag below the boot! Good purchase!

Best Winter Boots Ever!
These boots are fantastic! They are great for almost any occasion on which you'd need them i.e they're warm enough for deep snow but not so warm you can't wear them in the rain if needed--especiallyif you remove the insulation. Easy to slip on and off. Flexible neck so it's easy to cover with your snowpants. I live these boots!

Love these boots!!
Very comfortable and very warm, my feet always get stupid cold when doing things outside in the snowy cold Chicago winter. Finally a pair of boots that actually keep my feet warm!! I’ve been wanting to get some Sorel’s for a while and finally pulled the trigger, very happy!!

Waterproof, warm, but too big everywhere
First the positives - the boots are really warm, seem to be waterproof, and the traction so far has been good. Now the bad, they are really big. They fit just about right with my thickest wool socks on, but with medium or lighter socks there's way too much room in them. But that's not my biggest concern, it's the upper part that I find most troubling. I have to tuck my pants into the tops of the boots in order for them to be snug around the ankles. Otherwise at the tightest they can go they're still flopping around, which in addition to be annoying is painful as it rubs on my leg and quickly created a rub burn. I really wanted to like these boots as my last pair from about eight years ago held up well and were perfect, but these are just so annoying to deal with I only wear them for going out in wet and/or deep snow and won't wear them as my day-to-day winter boots.

Excellent product.
The quality of these are what I expected from Sorel, excellent. I ordered these to replace a 40 year old pair of Sorels. As time went by and I added weight, my original pair got tighter and tighter to get on. They are still not worn out. The reported fit to size on these is very puzzling to me. I wear a size 9.5 4E regular shoe. I knew the width would be snug until the liners stretch to accommodate my wide foot, no problem. I fully expected to have to exchange the size I ordered for a better fit. I ordered size 10.5 and much to my surprise they were the fit I was looking for. I wear a heavy boot sock when I wear these boots. I can't account for the different size to fit reported in the reviews but this is what has worked for me. Maybe they vary that much from one production to the next. I don't know. I should be good for the next forty years. Great product.

Good winter boots
Ive had sorel’s in the past and needed a new pair quickly based on winter storms in my area and local stores not having my size. These boots so far have worked as expected. Water resistant, warm. I would purchase again if needed. I recommend them.

Check sizes
I found these a little big, maybe room for extra thick socks? I added an insole that made them a little tighter but I felt my feet were moving around in them slightly, Possibly in part due to the liner. I also found them too big round the top, room to tuck your trousers in? ( I'm a size 8 and normally shoes in my size are quite tight) Definitely overkill for snow boarding in France, Super warm at just below freezing. Seem to be very good quality and expect them to perform very well in much colder climates.
