The Engine will automatically detect each arch and do exactly what is shown. It could stop, start, go slow, turn on the lights or make a sound. Isn't that fun. Where will the train go next? And what will it do? It’s all up to you. All hands to the pumps! There's a major fire in the forest and we need to put it out quickly! The alarm is raised at the Fire Station and the Firefighters are ready! Sirens are blaring, the helicopter has been filled and is ready for take off. Even the Fire boat has been pulled into action! All we need now is you. The Police theme is packed full of action! Today will be a busy day. Transport the gold shipment by train but hang on we've got engine trouble. That's suspicious. The retro designed farm playset lets your child lead the life of a successful farmer. After milking the cow, old Daisy is put out to pasture. Meanwhile the tractor is taking a large bale of hay to the barn. Fulfilling work. About BRIO Open-ended play system BRIO World is our open-ended play system that grows with your child. Review: A Terrific Little Train - But don't believe what Rufus tells you! - Before ordering this toy train for my grandson, I checked what batteries were needed. Rufus, desertcart's AI assistant, told me that the train itself needed two LR44 button cells alongside four AA batteries for the remote. Speaking as a retired electronics engineer, I felt sure that this was wrong: why would you need so much power for the infra-red remote, and so little power for the train? Turns out that he (or possibly she?) was indeed speaking with a forked tongue. This toy train does not need *ANY* LR44 cells at all. It simply takes two AA batteries for the train and another two for the remote. In the same way, Rufus insists that you turn the train upside down and remove the *bottom* cover to replace the fictitious LR44 cells. There is no bottom cover. Instead, you undo a single screw at the *back* of the train and replace the two AA batteries as and when needed. Rufus was obviously smoking something illegal when he/she came up with these instructions... 🤣 Aside from the miselading comments from Reckless Rufus, the train is a delight to use. It's so nice to be able to operate it without physiically touching the locomotive, and children will also love being able to operate the horn and lights from the remote. Can't wait to show it to my grandson!
Review: Great little train - I bought this for my 3 year old. He loves it. It has a remote. However, it can be controller without it. The only issue is that the remote is infrared. So, if there is no line of sight, it won't work. I would definitely buy again though.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone tried attaching 2 of these engines together and operating together with 1 remote? Does it make it easier to pull longer trains or faster?**
A: I have not tried putting 2 together. In regards to the remote, had multiple issues with it. Broke day one, replaced it... Broke within a week again. Sent back. Quality is lacking with this but haven't found anything strong with a remote. Lionel makes a great G-Guage for kids. Little pricey ($120) but quality and strength are second to none.If you want to stick with the wooden track set, the battery powered (push button) Thomas locomotives are the strongest I've found, but always had issues with the button sticking/not working as well. Remember, you get what you pay for.

**Q: Does anyone know if this train compatible with Thomas or Melissa and Doug track?**
A: Yes it does. We have Thomas and IKEA tracks and it works great on both. It also runs on the floor. It is an amazing train for kids and you don't need to buy new tracks! We haven't even needed to change the batteries yet. I bought it for my 5 year old son and now I 'm going to have to get one for my 2 year old daughter. It has become the most played with toy in my house. I highly recommend it.

**Q: Does the sound come out of the engine or the controller? Or both?**
A: The sound comes from the engine.

**Q: whats the range on the controller? We have a large amount of wooden trains and wondering if this will reach the other end of the table (9'-10')**
A: YES it will. But it uses an infra red signal so there must be an unobstructed "line of sight" from the controller to the locomotive. any obstruction... say a building, mountain, house will block the signal and temporarily lose control. The engine will not stop, for a time until it clears the obstruction. Very satisfactory for me! I cannot understand why Brio has not made other configurations such as old time logging locos etc. Range ( within reason ) is not the critical factor, obstruction is! Try bouncing the signal off a nearby wall or >> the ceiling! Ask more questions if you need to.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent
*by J***W on 1 March 2014*

The locomotive is well made from high quality plastic, it is powerful and had no problems pulling a long train up the Brio bridges. One pair of AA batteries lasted for several hours of running, which I think is very good. The buttons on top are intuitive, our 22month old just knew which one to press for forward and back; he is not interested in stop. The switchable front lights and flashing reversing light are a great idea. There is no magnetic coupling on the front. The remote control can be a bit dodgy - sometimes we have to put it in reverse to get stop, but usually it works fine. It does need line of sight which, as the unit seems to be designed to sit on a surface rather than be held in one hand and operated with the other, could be a problem for kids. It is intended for 3 years and up. When purchased the Engine was priced at a similar level to other battery engines which made it an absolute bargain. I think it is usually rather more expensive. I have rated it 4 stars only because the remote control is a bit awkward for kids to hold, point and operate simultaneously, otherwise it would be 5 stars.
