Yes the USB-C cable comes with the monitor - approx 1m length; enables charging and data transfer.

Q: Why does the monitor only work with the provided usb c cable?

Don't know, but I bought a good quality one that didn't work as well as the provided cable. I'm not an expert on this but maybe it's because there's a difference between USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. Anyway works perfectly with the provided cable.
