American Landing: Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Monterey

If you own the 2007 DVD version or previous Blu-Ray version, then you have this already. Same exact packaging all the way down to the inner booklet. The only difference is one says DVD and the other says Blu-Ray. I had a feeling there wouldn't be much improvement to the video and audio quality from the DVD and I was right. Being the die-hard Hendrix fan that I am, I wanted to own this on Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, this release is another way for the Hendrix corporation to make more money off the fans. Very disappointing for the Hendrix fans who were hoping to see an improved version of the best live performance ever.I'm including pictures of the 2007 DVD version on the left and the 2017 Blu-Ray on the right. See any difference?

No sooner does this performance get underway, then it's over. This is Jimi at the Monterey Pop Festival, who cranks through a short set-list and ends it with the famous flaming guitar at the end of "Wild Thing". The DVD opens with interviews with Monterey performers, personnel and others, goes through a short list of songs.....and then is over.Dolby 5.1 Surround is excellent, as is the video quality for its time. Though the Monterey performance shows a more cohesive and perhaps neater effort than Hendrix at the Isle of Wight, the latter gets a slighter edge because it shows footage of Jimi onstage in his natural improvisational style. It's also longer and includes vintage Hendrix in all his guitar genius, including "Machine Gun".I liked American Landing because it marked the significance of Jimi Hendrix making his mark in America. At the time, he had a very big following in England. I also liked it because....hey, it's Jimi! The flaming guitar stunt was, of course, famous....or infamous, judging by some of the faces in the crowd.... and definitely very much talked about in the history of rock guitarists. Certainly, it was a battle of the times in terms of notoriety for The Who, as well as Jimi. At the end, Jimi was, no doubt, victorious in terms of which guitarist had a slightly bigger impact that night at Monterey.

I've never seen this video until I bought this video but OH MY GAWD! What a landing! 52 years later and the effect of the Hendrix "Landing" is still felt.This video will definitely convert the non-believer or "infidel" as I call them.

One of his best all around recorded performances.He was still fresh and full of life. A must buy!

I bought this to archive what I consider one of the greatest live performances ever.

Great transfer. Great extras on disc. Inspiring performance by Hendrix. If you haven't seen it in a while, get reacquainted.

Jimi Hendrix is a guitar icon, we all recognize that fact if you’re reading this review. What struck me was his electrifying stage presence and showmanship. Like Hendrix’s Woodstock performance he puts it all on the line for the audience to revel in.It’s an iconic concert that any fan would enjoy.The bluray picture quality is fantastic for a film of this vintage. The audio is top notch as well.I would compare the audio/video quality to other film from that era such as Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains the Same” or “The Last Waltz”.I highly recommend this concert experience to anyone who loves Hendrix, Classic Rock or Historically Important Moments captured on film.Enjoy!

je ne peux pas juger le blue ray en lui même car il ne passe pas sur un lecteur blue ray intégré à un ordinateur à cause des blocages de sécurité intégrés au dvd ce qui est vraiment dommage !! Si qq un a une solution pour arriver à le lire je suis preneuse (à part acheter un lecteur de salon...)
