Seasparrow

I read this over two days I couldn't stop thinking about it anytime I wasn't reading it. This whole series is incredible I definitely recommend!

I enjoyed Seasparrow, but I do feel it was too long. Quite a few chapters could have been summarised down to 3 or 4 pages, as 10-20 chapters were predominantly following the same plot.

This new addition to the Graceling Realm was a fantastic read. I had to make myself stop reading and do something else, so it I would not read it too fast, lol. Bitterblue and her advisors are on their way back home after all the drama in Winterkeep (previous novel); but is it a good idea to sail in winter? As it turns out, this is really Hava’s story as she begins to learn who she wants to be in the future. Lots of suspenseful action and a bit of romance makes this an exciting read.

Would of been if it was half the length. Nothing much happens just a lot of climbing sails and walking across ice. Very different from the other graceling stories. Even struggled to get through listening on audio.

Hava is such an interesting character who absolutely deserved her own book--and Cashore, with her trademark sensitivity, does her such JUSTICE in the telling. She is the kind of difficult character who challenges both us, as writers, and our readers, but Cashore handles her so well, even in all her prickly, habitually antagonistic glory.I really love how, in all of these books, the recurrent theme is that the person we are is not defined by the abuses we have suffered--that we have strength and power in ourselves, even in moments where we feel powerless and like we have no control. And reading this book (a story of survival and how survival, doing what we must TO survive, can alter us fundamentally) was both heartbreaking and a balm.also I highly recommend reading it back to back with Winterkeep! Both stand alone, but they weave together so well, too.I was EXTREMELY excited to see some cameo appearances from other favorite characters from previous books in the series, too. Very satisfying!
