Q: If i am using a vandoren v12 strength 3, would i get a 3 in d'addario?

The V12 is a robust sounding reed, giving the bridge, or throat tones more support, thus providing an overall coverage of the entire range of the clarinet. Again, this also depends on the lay of the mothpiece and the horn. Thed'addario 3 takes slightly less air than the Vandoren, but has a bit brighter tone and, I think, better all around control of the sound for a student or intemediate player. The Vandorens, no matter what type or stregnth are, to mee, always designed for the performing pro/semi pro. The consistancy of quality of ether reed can only be found in the long run. So far, the quality of each manufacturer has been about 85%. 8 out of 10 play well out of the box. I was surpriased by both.

Q: Is there like a sample reeds that I could get or buy to compare if I like the reserve and reserve classics better?

We do sell single reeds of all the reeds we sell as long as we don't have conflicts with amazon listings. That can be a little expensive when you figure in the shipping but still less than buying an entire box.

Q: I use Vandoren blue box reeds.. any way to compare the strength?

Strength is scaled by the size and thickness of reeds. For starter clarinet or saxophone reeds I would suggest a lower number or thickness. I have better results with D'Addario reeds.
