No gnats!!!
Lately Miracle Grow potting soil is full of gnats. Clouds of them fly out of the soil of my house plants with watering or movement. I am thrilled to have a good mix of soil in this product without having to buy "gnat-trol" to keep the infestation under control. Will definitely buy again when needed.

Good Potting Soil
I usually buy another brand. I am familiar with Proven Winner's patented plants, but was unaware that they sold potting soil. I ran across this when I was unable to venture out for potting soil. Check and compare prices. At the time, the price was reasonable. My plants have done very well in this soil.

Insect Infested Potting Soil
The soil was completely infested with black flies (fungus gnats) in addition to being poor quality potting soil. It dried out quickly, got solid and impenetrable. I do not recommend this product.

Quickly turned very acidic: about 4.2 pH
Most plants like soil acidity between 6.0 and 7.0 with 6.0 being slightly acidic. This stuff tested OK when I first bought it, but quickly turned very acidic, so a few weeks later it was about 4.1 pH - much too acidic for most plants. So now I'm having to soak it in a bucket of water + baking soda to neutralize the excess acidity. It's a pain, but living on Social Security, I can't afford to just discard it. Even worse, it'll undoubtedly need the acidity neutralized frequently while my plants are in it.
