It is likely that the battery will cost you more than the cable tester. It is fantastic value. The same device is almost 4 times more expensive from a leading trade building supplies chain, not including delivery!We had fixed CAT-5 cabling installed in our house whilst it was being built in 1997 and have really reaped the benefits as wireless congestion has increased, allowing us to have gigabit Ethernet around our home. However, over the years there have been some problems: With a patch panel, wall sockets and a plethora of cables, getting connections to work became a bit hit and miss.With this tester it took under an hour to test and fix the entire network installation by pointing the finger of blame in precisely the right places.- Several poor connections on the back of the patch panel and back of the wall sockets were found, quickly fixed by reseating the wires with the IDC Insertion Tool- Several faulty patch cables identified and discarded- A faulty network switch port was identified having proven the cabling to be goodI used to use a Multimeter to test continuity of the fixed wiring but it is far more time consuming and does not allow end-to-end testing of fixed wiring plus patch cables. If this tester just saves you a few minutes it has already paid for itself.

The overall build quality is reflected in the price but that aside it does the job. If you are only going to use it at home then you can't go wrong with this product. Why pay big bucks for something you are only going to use maybe one or two times. I had a problem with my ethernet set up and this little gadget found it instantly. My home hard wired ethernet is up and running perfectly. Doesn't come with a battery so you'll need a PP3 Battery before you can use it.

This thing cost pennies.I had half a dozen or so cables that I needed to crimp, and locate their matching ends to sockets around the house. Using this very low cost tool, I had it done in a snap. It happily identified problems with my crimping - give me a break, it's nearly 20 years since I last crimped a cable - and in one case found a fault in the wiring of the faceplate in one of the rooms.Without this, I'd have been guessing or tearing my hair out.However, it's not really a tool for the professional. I used to be in a business which sold cable testing equipment for £2000 a pop - and that was in the late '80s when £2000 actually bought you something. If I were a professional cable installer, I'd want something far more robust than this.But for a domestic user, or perhaps a builder that occasionally installs Cat 5 cabling and wants to quickly check that it is basically wired up correctly, then this tool is fine.

I'll buy again, but 1st one was rusted

This device has saved me a lot of time and money when trying to figure out why I have no access to the internet, router or a home server. When such a faulty occurs we naturally assume something is wrong with the PC networking settings when everything looks ok and the problem persists then it’s time to look at the LAN (Local Area Networking) connections and going through every cable is extremely time consuming especially if you have several devices connected by LAN. This device will immediately spot the fault and it’s just a matter of replacing a cable. This is must have device for all PC users to eliminate LAN connection faults. This is an excellent product and as always excellent Amazon service; deservers five stars.

Having already improvised a network cable tester using a 47mm pattress box, double RJ45 faceplate (reverse fitted to the box) and a multi-meter I bought this to streamline the process of checking a faulty hidden patch cable. Having read the (not so good) reviews I estimated a better than 50% chance of getting a functioning unit for less than the price of a pint of beer and it worked perfectly on a good cable. Still to visit the site of the faulty cable and test it for the problem but so far so good.

Does the job, but it is pretty obvious that it is built as cheap as possible. But well, it is £5 so it is still a very good purchase. If you are going to use it occasionally, then I totally recommend it, if you are going to make an extensive use of it then it looks that it will not be able to take it (cheap plastic, not very resistant).A good purchase for a home use.

This product was delivered on time and I found it very easy to use even though you do not get any instructions with it.For the price excellent value and will make a difference to Ethernet installations.It finds when you have wired Ethernet sockets out correctly or incorrectly by using a row of eight flashing lights that move down a row, it also has a remote unit that detaches in order for you to test both ends of the cable connections.You need a nine-volt battery not supplied. I have never done any Ethernet installation before and found this to be a very useful piece of kit for the money.

Ein tolles Gerät. Konnte direkt einige Kabel aussondern, die nicht gut abgeschirmt waren und so meine Kabelverbindungen schneller und sicherer machen. Das Gerät testet Synchronisation und Schirmung, die auf LED-Anzeigen sichtbar werden. Es lohnt sich. Ich konnte damit neue Kabel direkt aussondern und zurück schicken. Die Synchronisation ist fast immer OK, aber die Abschirmung ist oft ungenügend. Den Test kann man auch mit Hubs, Adaptern und Kupplungen machen, wenn man zwei Kabel benutzt und die Geräte dazwischen setzt. Insbesondere konnte ich das Ethernet Kabel (15 m) vom Router in mein Wohnzimmer ersetzen. Es lief danach alles viel besser!

livré à la date prévue, emballage correct.Très simple à utiliser, je ne suis pas un professionnel mais un bricoleur du dimanche.Seul petit reproche, le plastique du boitier a l'air un peu cassant, peu souple donc. Il semble assez dur, donc je crains par exemple, que la patte du compartiment à pile ne finisse par casser à l'usage. Mais comme je l'ai dit, je n'en fais pas un usage professionnel

Ottimo. Funziona perfettamente. Provato su un cavo fatto da me qualche giorno fa per provare una crimpatrice mi ha subito segnalato un errore di crimpaggio che pensavo non ci fosse. Premetto che non sono un tecnico quindi l'errore è dietro l'angolo. Il materiale è buono. Bella la custodia, pratica. Sono molto contento. Spedizione puntuale.
