From what I know, some prefer spotting scopes as it gives the user the same sort of feel and view, that the shooter has down his/her scope. These binoculars will look after you no problem. **Q: Is there a lighter model with similar range . These are around 3lbs in weight and I have severe arthritis. Also would I need to have a tripod.** A: You must use these with a tripod, because of the high magnification its not possible for anyone to hold these without the target image wobbling **Q: do they work enhanced at night** A: The binoculars are excellent and work very well at night, however, the tripod bracket as supplied is very (sensitive to vibration/movement). I solved it by filling the sides with hard setting substance (such as No Nails etc) and it is now very stable.
