MonumentPump Nut Spanner (52mm A/F)

A week before Christmas and a deep freeze has been forecasted, a drip appears on the central heating pump isolating valve. Straight away I know this going to be the proverbial “pig of a job”, my set of pliers are insufficient. So I order this 52 mm spanner, slightly loose, but does the job fast, replace the washer with a rubber one, instead of the fibre type, 'because of their longevity'. So I get to sit down and watch the World Cup final with a beer and peace of mind. PS this spanner hangs in my garage pride of place, to remind me of what could have happened.

So, if like me you're not a plumber but want to tackle replacing your c/h pump and understandably are loathe to spend 20-odd quid for the right tool for the job, please read on. Every time I looked at what was involved my eyes constantly homed-in on those 52mm nuts - they're BIG! Mine have not been moved for years and from previous experience with weedy 22mm nuts I knew I'd have a battle on my hands getting them to shift. So the spanner arrived - it's BIG - almost a thing of beauty - a real man's tool! Much bigger and sturdier than I was expecting. Well I put this daddy to work and those nuts were tighter than a bullfighters pants but they turned with ease - like a hot knife through butter - I know I'm sad but the satisfaction of knowing they were like putty in my hands was worth every penny I paid! So okay (hopefully) you'll never need to use the spanner again, but believe me it's a small price to pay for saving your knuckles, blood-pressure and stress levels! And when you've finished using it you can hang it up in your garage and every now and then take a look at it and say 'now that's what I call a spanner!' Honestly, I wouldn't tackle this job without it.

Good tool

Needed this to fit new central heating pump. Checked online and this tool seemed to be the best value and most recommended for the job and since the pump had not been replaced in 25 years was concerned that the pump nuts would be hard to undo. However, this large spanner was so easy to use and loosened the nuts with ease - job done in no time at all. Brilliant.

Quality is ok, it is just a spanner. Did the job though without having to use an adjustable wrench

Bought to replace central heating pump. My boyfriend's pretty sure that this isn't made of steel! It also needed some filing to fit around the nuts. Did the job in the end though.

I lost my old one (yeh, unlikely I know, the thing is huge) so bought this one. I must have bought a Monday morning job. You'd think it would be easy - manufacture a simple standard 52mm, 2" pump nut spanner, then dip in black varnish/paint to finish. Except the varnish/paint coat is at least half millimetre both sides, so the spanner doesn't fit the pump nut.After a good filing down with a coarse file in the jaws to remove the paint, nice shiny metal - it still didn't fit.... and so it went on down to bare metal jaws and after much filing eventually it fitted. What a performance for such a simple job. It is Undersized from Manufacture, that or my grundfos/valve gate nuts are larger than most !.
