W. E. B. Griffin Rogue Asset: A Presidential Agent Novel, Book 9

Action packed and fast paced makes this a success!
For true W.E.B. Griffen fans this book is a success on one hand and a failure on the other.First the failure for it is short: as the Authors noted in the very front and first pages of the book they are not WEB GRIFFEN OR BUTTERWORTH IV. They say they will try to come close to the writing style in some ways but the hope is to keep the life of the characters and story line going. They did do that in a way but it was hard to tell the actual jump in time line, and why after hazardous duty did it have to jump so far into the future? My biggest concern as a true fan of WEB GRIFFEN was the lack of character history. People who may have been fans of the current writers may not know why Charley is what his character is. Then the big name drop of a former and different series of McCoy aka killer McCoy family merged. I liked the merge, loved it. However the character development and history of why and how was missing. I thought a 20 year jump in time was a hard pill to swallow after the way the last novel ended and this one starting. But hey it was still good to see these characters come back to life.Pros: first off I’m glad the series gets to keep living on. Also with the added character from another series of web GRIFFEN books I loved, McCoy. Although this be the grandson of Killer a added bonus to possible revive of other series in the future!!! This book was action packed and fast paced making it hard to put down. I admire the authors for noting that they could never compare to Griffin’s writing style and that the books moving forward were an homage to his characters! I look forward to reading more of their stores with these characters and developments in future reads!!!I was skeptical at first and nervous seeing two different series being taken on by different authors now I look forward to the publishing of the next authors version to come out in March of the other series.

yes. maybe. probably.
This is a two part review. The tale was all action and hard to put down. A great story, well written and I will follow the authors. Good characters, and well blended. HOWEVER, if you’re taking over and following the footsteps of a beloved writer, you should follow in his style. WEB was a storyteller. He wrote about a group of people that we all came to know like our best friends. Every main character was a hero to his readers. You could visualize every person and event in your mind. I couldn’t even keep up with all the acronyms, more or less remember what they all meant. A few people have given a good run at Tom Clancy, but WEB will be more difficult.Nice try gentlemen, I’ll be here for the next one, hope you find the style. Nice job tying in Killer McCoy, but you forgot his Fairbairn. I hope you read an entire series of his books, just to see how he tied them together.Good LuckDon

Excellent Story Line, Hard to put down
The story was great, true to W.E.B. Griffin plots and execution. Vivid characters and a believable story. Having been almost a year since I read the last W.E.B. Griffin Presidential Agent book, it took a bit to come up to speed Castillio. While W.E.B. Griffin went way overboard with character/story backgrounds, this book could have used a bit of it just to get familiar again with the main characters. Still, solid five stars. Looking for the next one by Andrews & Wilson.

Great writing, needs more backstory. Highly recommend reading.
The writing and the action and story are really well done. I liked the book, a lot. Everyone is upset about the lack of backstory on Charley. I missed it too, but that is separate from the quality of the writing and setup of a new Presidential Agent. Hopefully in the future of the series we'll get some of the backstory about both main characters past history and current status with family, and businesses. If Sweaty died, or divorced Charley, just give a sentence, or paragraph to fill in and flesh out. I would five star for writing alone, but tell me more about the past to understand Charley's mindset. I want that guy who could ghost between America and Germany to bring some of his resources to the front to teach and bond with Pick. I'm ready for the next book, get to writing guys, times a burning and Charley's not getting younger.

Awesome action and suspense
I was very iffy on reading this book because I really loved the series when written by WEB Griffin and was afraid it wouldn't be the same but I was wrong. It is the same and the spirit of the original books are still there. Really enjoyed the writing ,action, suspense and the characters were richly written and so likeable. Looking forward to the next one. RIP WEB Griffin!

He’s back
I reread WEB Griffin’s books every 5 years. It’s good to see someone is carrying on the presidential agent series. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading more

Continuing on with a great series. A worthy addition!
I have been a fan of WEB Griffin books since his first novel and have eagerly awaited each new book, spending delightful time reading and never being disappointed. With his unfortunate passing in 2019, I wasn't sure whether we would see another book of his characters, and if we did, whether it would live up to the standards set. It does. Really well.Andrews & Wilson have tried to adopt as much of Griffin's style of prose as possible, and while the first few chapters had me leery of the whole endeavour, their writing and the plot got me hooked. I read the book in two days, thoroughly enjoying both the writing style (which, in hind sight, is very Griffin-esque) and the plot, which is well thought through. The character development (good ol' Charley is back in action) is excellent, and we have new people to learn and care about. It's been a long time since the last Griffin book, and while Andrews and Wilson have done an excellent novel adhering to Griffin's legacy, I hope they continue to infuse a little of their styles into the future novels. This is an excellent book. A good, fun, "one more page" novel in the best tradition of Griffin. Thanks, guys, and can we have more, soon, please?

Good Attempt but doesn't quite make it
I looked forward to reading this book. While beginning the book there was no back story. The last book Hazardous Duty Charley Castillo, had a wife and a child on the way no mention of that in this book. Another error was the reintroduction of Ken McCoy's great grandson into the mix again no backstory. Action was ok but I must admit that I was disappointed and hope if these authors continue to write a newer version of the Presidential Agent Series they do some research.

The general premise of the story matched the earlier books.
Right from the start I knew this book was the last of a very good series of earlier books from different authors. I enjoyed this book, even though most earlier, great characters were not part of this book. The authors did a good job of tieing the story line from the previous books of the series into this finale. They also left the door opened to continue the series, which I would definitely follow.

W.E.B Griffin lives on.
I was like many I'm sure, saddened with the passing of W.E.B. Griffin. Was this to be the end of my favourite author's writings. The book that got me started late in life to reading. Congratulation, the legend continues with this novel. A great read. Like Griffin, your right in the action from cover to cover. I'm sure wherever he is, he's happy and approves of the result. If you love his books, this one will not disappoint.
