Great product saved us getting a new chair
We thought that we would have to replace our home office chair as it kept lowering when sat on. I measured the old gas lift and found that I needed a 7 inch replacement. Before ordering I checked the reviews and saw that one person suggested getting a slightly longer replacement. I opted for the 9 inch replacement. I am so glad I did. The lower height of the chair is now at what would be the mid point of the old 7 inch gas lift. But importantly the longer gas lift now raises the chair to the correct height with the desk and it is still not at its full extension. So hopefully no more sore necks and backs. Impressed with the quality. As to fitting the instructions are reasonably clear. I did have to use a wooden mallet to hit the base of the old gas lift to remove it from the legs. I used WD40 as the instructions suggested. Within a couple of hits it came off. Removing it from the base of the chair took a bit longer. I soaked it in WD40 and left it. The gas lift would not come free by hand. Do not try to remove the gas lift by striking down on the top of the gas lift. It is better to hit the plate below the chair which the gas lift goes into. But to do this you may need to remove the plate from underneath the chair. The plate was held on by four bolts which were very easy to remove. The plastic cover which goes around the old gas lift was too short because of getting a longer gas lift. I appreciated this was a possiblity when I bought the gas lift. The new gas lift is totally black. The photo on Amazon is incorrect as is shows a silver top. I am more than happy that it is totally black.I would suggest that when measuring you consider getting a taller gas lift. Overall great product and not too difficult to replace. I would certainly recommend you buy one as it will save a fortune in replacing an officer chair.UPDATEA few weeks on and I am still totally happy with this gas lift. We have had no issues. It is a 100% recommendation and a easy way to save on the purchase of a new chair.

Rescued my otherwise perfect chair but don't expect help
I wrote BIMI twice for customer service and both times got a disappointing response which said nothing and referred me to the website. I took a chance and ordered it anyway and am glad I did. Although the job wasn't as straightforward as their website's quick video lead you to believe it's not too bad if you have the correct tools. Primarily you need a pipe wrench and a rubber mallet to twist the piston that enters the chair. I attached the pipe wrench 1/3 the way from the top then tapped the handle with the mallet and was able to remove the chair from the top of the piston. However, I was unable to dislodge the piston from the base of the chair. I neglected to spray with oil before hammering at it which could have made a big difference. In the end I reused the housing of the old piston by removing the clip and washer from the bottom and pulled out the BIMI piston from the housing. I then inserted that into the existing housing that was wedged in the chair base the put back on the washer and clip at the base. I've been using the chair for a day since the replacement and I can't get over how nice it is to set a height and for it to actually stay there! I'm oddly proud of myself that I fixed it and didn't need to throw an otherwise good chair into a landfill. I'll probably get another 5 years out of it thanks to this cheap replacement part.EDIT: I'm raising this from 4 to 5 stars. Despite the lack of customer service and the install might not be simple the fact is this cheap part rescued my perfectly good chair. It's been a couple of months since the install and the product itself is great and is still at the same height I set it at so it at on the first day so it deserves full marks.

Superb value, needs very slight mod to fit.
I have been looking for a good replacement gas strut for my Steelcase Leap chair for some time as the original had started to let me down slowly during the day, so I had to keep lifting the seat to get comfortable. I saw this strut advertised and for the price I thought I would give it a try as it wasn't a huge amount to lose if it didn't fit.The biggest problem I had was getting the old strut off but eventually managed with my son's help, fitting the new strut was a piece of cake, the only problem for me was that on my particular Steelcase Leap chair, the small plastic 'pip' on the top of the gas strut (that makes it go up and down) was a little too long, meaning the chair would not stay up.All I did was gently file a couple of millimetres off the top of the plastic pip until I could sit on the chair and it would remain in position. At first the operation was a little 'sticky', but it soon settled down and I have to say I am extremely pleased with my purchase, I no longer get that 'sinking feeling' and the chair is now much smoother and stays in position beautifully.A very good purchase and an absolute bargain in my eyes. All you need is a small file and a little patience, and a visit to YouTube to see how to change it. Excellent.
