The dire scraping you get with metal strings put me off using them with my electric. This sound completely vanishes on nylon strings on for example your ukelele. I would personally that they are suitable :) **Q: Can you use these to play rythmn.** A: You could but it would sound rather harsh. These are more suited to finger picking. **Q: what are the dimensions** A: This is not a simple question to answer.First it depends on which size pick you are using, medium or large. I have tried both.The best one for me is the large and it still feels a little too small.To answer your question I have measured the pick in its parts which is shaped like the letter P.The large size has a total length of its up right as 1.1/4 ". The internal upright part of the P is 7/8". the horizontal part of the top of the P is 1/2" The broadest width of the 'tang' of the P is 9/16" This might all be difficult to follow but I have tried my best to give an answer.In brief I would say that in spite of it being the largest available, it still seems too small to fit around my thumb and I am not a big man.Hope this helps. **Q: I have thicker, short fingers. I only use a thumb pick occasionally, finger picks are available. If you’re unsure what size to buy, the packs only contain two or three picks, just buy the larger or smaller size. I’m a bloke with fairly large hands but I reckon many people will get away with the large (L) size having given these thumb picks to a couple of lady ukulele players in our club. Two To get them to fit correctly, boil some water and drop the pick(s) in. Half a minute to a minute is all that’s required. Fish the pick out of the hot water with a utensil (fork or spoon) and place on a towel, tissue paper or kitchen towel so that there isn’t any water on the pick to scald you. Quickly place the pick on your thumb while it’s still hot and malleable so that it stretches to fit your thumb. As the pick cools it will stiffen and retain the shape and size of your thumb.
