But after some careful consideration, I finally decided to go all out and purchase the collectors edition... This was an excellent decision.When I received my parcel, I'll be honest, I was worried that the contents would be cheap and not worth the £80. Inside right at the top was the game, followed by an Ark logo necklace (decent quality with plastic gems), a cloth map (a lot bigger than I was expecting) and a CD of the Ark original soundtrack. So far, all is pretty good. Then I open up to the the next layer which has a worn down leather bound book which looks (though a little matching made) could come from a dinosaur filled island. All this is excellent, but I'm still not sure if it hits the £80 mark.On starting the game, I am met with a quite obviously pc player oriented screen with text of various colours all over the place, but this is only the start-up screen. Upon, going into a new world I realise this is not going to be as easy as I first thought. Not only do I find dinosaurs constantly killing me a tad frustrating (don't let this put you off, I just made some poor decisions early on), I also found the controls extremely confusing. It is clear this was a game built for pc which (in my opinion) has not been fully optimised for PS4 or any other console. I am aware that these controls would become simpler if I also bought a mouse and keyboard, but I did not want to do so. Despite this small flaw and and my issue with how messages are displayed, after many hours this does prove to be an extraordinary game. It has an enormous open world, excellent crafting, fantastic graphics and models, and I love how you have to actively think about you're survival in this unforging world.
