Get the most out of your knives and cuterly with Butcher Steel from UltraSource. Regularly using honing steel maintains the original quality of knife blades and increases safety. Dull knife blades make chopping and slicing more difficult, but more importantly leaves the risk of slippage and injury. Choose from a variety of steel grades from coarse to polished to suit the kind of honing your knife needs. Choose smooth steel design for minor sharpening and edging, and coarse steel for creating edges and knife repair.

Excellent steel
If you don't know what a smooth steel is do not purchase this until you've been taught you will destroy your knives. Several reviews are bad because this was purchased by people who simply didn't know any better. For the price this is a steal and would even venture to say would do for professional use in a pinch.

Really makes a difference on the knives I've used it on
Used it on a couple of kitchen knives and a nice pocket knife. It made a noticeable difference in the cutting ability of each knife. Well worth the $10.

Kept the Blades Sharp
I purchased the honing steel, a butcher's knife, and boning knife to process a half-pig carcass in November. The honing steel did well to keep my blades sharpened as I cut. It is important to note the angle in which you sharpen -- of which there are plenty of tutorials online -- otherwise you can do more harm than good. With that said, it was quick to pick up on. Honing steels are not knife sharpeners, so if your blade is dull, don't expect this to bring it to a brand-new edge. Nonetheless, I've found improvement with all my knives once I run them through the steel.

just a few minutes and pocket knives cut like new.
I bought both the coarse and smooth rods because if you got knives that are needing a new edge you need both. I've tried the diamond stick sharpeners on my Buck pocket knives but it doesnt seem those get the knife as sharp as i want it. my knives are a kitchen tool, mail opener, utility knife, they see some good use for each and nothing has really made them nice and sharp except this coarse/smooth combo.

Good steel for the money
I was looking for a totally smooth steel with no ridges and this is it.

HOWEVER.....
I absolutely love these things. I run a factory floor and these keep my knife handlers making razor precision cuts all day. HOWEVER... The last three times I ordered these, I received the "smooth" version even when specifying that I want the "coarse" version. It's a good value, and if you get what you want, they are great. I am, however, going to find a different vendor who can ship me the product I order. Sad. I really like these things.

I was skeptical but this is amazing.
Learned about polished steel’s from the Bearded Butchers videos. I was a bit skeptical but for the price I thought I should give it a try. I’ve used more coarse steels in the past but they didn’t seem to improve the sharpness after going through my Trizor XV sharpener. This really works! It doesn’t remove any material, just aligns the edge. Similar to polishing metal properly not material is removed, just moved.

Deadly!
Love this thing really puts the edge back on a knife. Use this for my fur skinning knives which need to be razor sharp.

Has dings and gouges
Steel showed up, opened to find multiple dings and gouges on the rod itself, will not be any good for sharpening
