Two classic board games in colourful version - accessories a bit on the cheap side
I bought this board game as Christmas present, and my son liked it – we played on both sides with equal delight and much excitement. They are both classics which I remember from my childhood, though the Italian version of Snakes and Ladders is called Gioco dell'oca, and the German ludo I inherited from my mum was called Mensch, ärgere Dich nicht (which roughly translates as 'man, do not get upset'), a very appropriate name for a long game where even patient boys can lose their temper... Both sides are very colourful, with the attractive drawings of Orchard Toys we love, and a pirate twist. The reason I gave it four stars only is because the plastic accessories are very small and look cheap in a board game which frankly is not that cheap – and they can be lost very easily. I would have preferred bigger signs which childred can hold and move easily instead of little, thin plastic disks, and a bigger dice. My mum's 60-year old ludo had coloured wooden pawns. I would not expect wood, of course, but even plastic pawns would be much nicer or, as it is a pirat game, small pirate characters. Anyway, these are fantastic games for letting your children practise their numbers. And btw the version we got had four giant puzzle pieces to combine, not to fold. It should last a while, though probably not 60 years...

Another excellent Orchard Toys product
Another excellent Orchard Toys product! This comes in a nice box which is small enough that is can be stored easily, the board is reversible and so it cuts down on having to buy these games separately. The snakes and ladders has 4 cardboard pirates which are durable and colourful which fit into small plastic clips that act as stands. The board is bright and busy and looks good! My 4 year old loves the snakes and ladders game and has played it over and over again with us.The Ludo has small, flat, circular pieces of compound card which act as counters for the game. They are 4 different colours and have 4 counters for each player. The board again is colourful and fun looking.Overall this is a great game for young children. It engages my 4 year old well, he does prefer the Snakes and Ladders to the Ludo but I think this is mainly due to Ludo taking much longer to play to completion. While the fact that it's I made of cardboard may put you off (most if not all Orchard Toys are made this way) the cardboard is layered so it is dense and sturdy and the decorative parts are clear, bright and glossy looking. We haven't had any problems with the durability of any of their products. This is definitely a great introduction to board games for young children or a fun game for older children.

Game with a difference
Old school game with a modern twist of fairies and unicorns which a lot of little kids like. I’ve got this for my own and also bought as a gift for someone. Bright, colourful and a lot of fun

Great game, engaging illustration - let down by quality
First of all let me say I love Orchard Toys; I think they are fantastic games for their target audience and my kids love all of them; this one included. This is two games in one, the illustrations delightful and the games great. My kids love both.So why only 3 stars? This is the first time ever I've felt disappointed in the quality and durability of an Orchard Toy. It has the fairly typical lift up flap construction for the lid rather than a box with a separate lid and the board folds up into four to be dropped in with the pieces. The board illustration is a sheet of thick, colourful, wipe clean glossy paper stuck and bound to each face of the fold up thick cardboard board. It looks great. But if the board is accidently folded up the opposite way to the intended way (which happened within the first week) the paper playing surface stretches too tight across the cardboard board. It ripped the first time it was folded the wrong way most of the way across the board. Not so pretty now it's been repaired with Sellotape. You might say it's our fault for folding it wrong but this is a kids game and I think it should be a bit more durable and able to withstand such handling. I see a similar comment in another review about the board.Ludo and Snakes and Ladders are great games and this version is very appealing; young children will love it, but I've always commended Orchard Toys in the past for their durability and this time feel they fell short. If you buy it, your kids will love it but be very careful how you fold up the board.

Nice, practical version of theses games
All of the orchard toys games we have are very durable (considering they are made from cardboard) and store away nicely. (Would also make good travel games) They are all enjoyed by my child.I bought the fairy snakes and ladders for my 7 year old as she enjoys the game and this did not disappoint. It’s a simple and quick game that I don’t mind playing with her!The ludo is an added extra for us as it’s not a favourite game and takes longer to play (we also have frustration which seems to be the same game).Really nice and practical version of the games, highly recommend.

Brilliant game
Brought this one as a birthday present as it is one of my 5 year old daughters favourites. If your child loves Faries/unicorns you can’t go wrong with this.

a great game for all pirate lovers!
My five year old son is normally not much of a game lover, but he loves this version of Snakes and Ladders. It has been played several times since he received it for his birthday and he has learned to play Ludo too. He loves the idea of beating everyone to the treasure. The other advantage is that while the traditional Snakes and Ladders goes up to 100 this board only goes up to 48. This makes the games shorter and more enjoyable for younger players. The whole look of the game is also very appealing to boys or anyone who is into pirates.PS It is still one of his favourite games at the age of 6!
