Good quality chess set.

This is a substantial set. It's bigger than I thought it would be and looks quite nice. Nice enough to set on a table in the drawing room :). Magnetic board/pieces hold in case of slight movements. Two queens. Underneath storage for the pieces. Can see this lasting and not being put up on the top shelf of the closet.

The media could not be loaded.  My pictures don't do this beautiful board justice -- though there is one imperfect square in one of the corners with a couple of small black spots (seen in one of my pics.)The playing pieces are decent in quality, but not as heavy/fancy as I expected they would be, considering the list price.The elastic bands on the underside are a creative way to hold the playing pieces when not being used.Note that if you are buying this as a gift, my (green) box arrived slightly damaged. However, this may be a rare issue.If you watch my video, you will see one of the best things about the board... the fact that it is magnetic. I had to tilt one end upward quite a bit before the pieces started to slowly slide down -- and none of them fell completely off.The other thing I really like is the fact that it comes with a 9-page instruction manual that is sure to be helpful to people like me who want to learn how to play -- AND for those who already know how to play, but want to get better at it.The booklet includes board diagrams and is broken down into the following sections:1. Introduction to chess.2. Pieces and place.3. Movement and capture.5. Castling.6. Determination of win, lose and draw.I also appreciate the large, easy to read print in the instruction manual.There is a small card included in the box which covers the FANTASTIC Oumoda "International Warranty". Although there are four grammatical/spelling errors, it is written clearly enough to understand... " Please keep this card in case product [is] damaged during playing. No matter artificial damaged [sic] or non-artificial damaged [sic] in 12 monthes [sic], receive a whole new set within 3 days or get a full refund in a day, without returning. We got this for our 10 yo daughter who has taken up chess. She loves it. It looks nice and the pieces are easily distinguished from one another which isn't always the case with some sets. The magnetic nature of it is also nice as it's strong enough to keep the pieces from moving around if the board is bumped without being annoying when you're playing. The underside of the board has a felt lining with elastic loops to store the pieces but I'm not sure how long that part will last as it definitely seems like the weak point in the construction. My daughter prefers to just keep the pieces in a box anyway so they can be set up much more quickly. The one very bizarre quirk of this set is that it comes with 17 pieces per side rather than 16: 8 pawns, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 1 king, and 2 queens! Very weird! Clearly this is made by a company in which no one has ever played a game of chess. Not a big deal though as everything you need is there. We just tossed the 2 extra queens aside and got down to it.

Very nice, large set. I deducted a star because one of the pieces had a magnet fall out on the first day. I was able to resecure it without any glue or tools and it was fine but it shouldn't be having material defects right out of the box. This set is a great size and comes with extra queens. My husband and I enjoyed playing with it and will be using it for our weekly chess match. I do wish that it had a bag or some sort of cover for putting it away or covering the underbelly where the pieces store but that is not a complete deal breaker for me.

This is a really nice Chess set. We just got it and have already enjoyed several games on it. I really like the magnetic board/pieces but I would have liked it to be a little stronger. Nice simple storage of pieces on the underside of the board. This is nice for your home or to give as a gift.

The media could not be loaded.  My husband taught me how to play chess on this board. The board and pieces are fully wood. The chess pieces are magnetic to the board. I really like how they attach with elastic to the bottom of the chessboard when you're not using the pieces.

My son has been asking for a chess set ever since they started learning it in school recently. I decided to try this one out. When it arrived I was not expecting the type of board and pieces we received. Everything from the board to the pieces feel quality made.This set is magnetic and helps the pieces stay in place if the board gets bumped. They can also be stored underneath in elastic placeholders. This is one thing I didn't like about it. It would become a chore to put every piece back in it's location. We opted to store all the pieces in a freezer bag underneath that board. Another strange thing is the two Queen's? I'm not sure what that is about. I/We have never played chess like that. No worries though, just set that extra piece aside and play as usual.All in all, this is a great set. Well worth the price for the quality you get.
