Does it come with instructions

It was a while ago but I think it is very basic instructions. Once you start feeding the planks into the device and turning and bending you will quickly work out what you have to do.

Can anyone tell me if this can be used with 3mm dowel please

This is designed to be used with flat strip planking and would not work with dowels.

Expecting heating with electric current to bend venerr wood to build guitars & similar string musical instruments

This is a mechanical plank bender - no heating involved.

Do you have to soak your planks before using this device ?

Sometimes it will do them cold. But only with very thin stuff. I've never soaked them as such, and to be honest, I don't think that soaking is the correct technique. I steam them using the kettle. Steam bending is used by furniture makers and industry. I was thinking of making a purpose built tank. Which would enable me to do lots,at a time. But the kettle makes them pliable. One at a time. The trick is to keep running them through the bender patiently increasing the radios with each pass. Until you achieve your desired bend. Try to do it in one go and it is almost certain that it will snap. I hope this helps you.
