Q: What size is small? What size is medium? I need 30 mm and 40 mm.

I'm So sorry that I am unable to answer this question as I threw my coals away. I learned that you have to get the coals that are recommended by the manufacturer of the fire so that's what I did.

Q: Can I use these coals on a new home living gas fire

I don't see why not but would check with Manufacturer. I bought these coals to add to my new Electric real flame burner coal bed fire and the effect is great. The heat source is by way of a fan under the fire so where the coals are doesnt get hot. Hope this helps.

Q: Are these ‘coals’ dusty / do they disintegrate easily?

No they are not dusty, but the do form a patina after significant use. My coals are still intact.
