The Novello Guide To Sight-Singing: An Interactive Course for All Choral Singers

As a music teacher and choir trainer, I would highly recommend this excellent book. It offers the reader a clear sense of progression, a bank of strategies for sight singing, an impressive number of exercises to apply knowledge and case studies to put it all into practice. The tips feature offers the reader a thought process to becoming an excellent sight-reader. The app is a nice a idea but I did find it to be a little clunky, exercises all set to fast tempo, difficult to scroll through all the tasks and I am unsure about the quality of the pitch recognition - as can be seen by the video demo from the author, it is almost impossible to get 100% - everything I did (with or without inaccuracies) came out at about 70%-80%.

Excellent book: ideal for singers who wish to brush up on their sight-reading skills.

This looks like it could be an excellent book, but the promised ‘interactive digital features’ don’t seem to be working. I am unable to get verification of my email address and the help email [email protected], bounces back.It is a relatively recently published book and these problems do not reflect well on Novello and the authors at all. I feel as though I have wasted my money.I have complained to 'Music sales' at Novello, but haven't had a response, and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to contact the writers.

The idea was really good but I personally couldn't get the audio to work. Until they come up with an Android ap (which is on the way) I think it is possibly best suited for iPad and iPhone users which it frequently mentions. It does say, for others, best used with certain browsers of which I have two but no joy so sent it back. I must say I got excellent service from Amazon.
