Review: Oh La la - I have only recently discovered Julia Child from the Sky series The French Chef, so bought this to see some of the recipes in the show. As something of a basic cook this is allowing me to experiment and try new things. I’m not sure I’ll get through all the recipes as there are so many but I am enjoying experimenting. Review: Excellent gift - Made my mum very happy

Nigella with a hammer
More cookbooks should have a picture of a cheery woman wielding a gigantic hammer on the front - it sold me on this one. Julia Child's personality comes through every page - she doesn't just list recipes and methods, she talks you through it as though she was standing in your kitchen watching you, and even things that you might find tricky if you were to attempt them by yourself appear do-able when she explains them. I really enjoy reading this book, as well as cooking from it, plus you get the sense that you're closer to the heart of 'proper' French cooking than with many chefs, without having to actually flog your way through the Larousse Gastronomique.

Si no quieres gastar en The Art of French Cooking, o sientes que es poco práctico, ésta es tu mejor opción. Las recetas son buenas, he preparado una que otra y hasta ahorita todo sabe muy bien. Bon appetit!

Although over 50 years old this book is still wonderful for both new and experienced cooks. Classic use of butter and cream may put some modern cooks off but the results are wonderful flavours and wholesome food. It would be even better if updated to include metric measurements.
