This allows the Samsung SSD models with this (difficult to identify) feature to be used as a boot disk on Windows 10 systems (with native NVME drivers) ... even if the BIOS lacks native NVME boot support. I have a HP z420, which also lacks NVME BIOS boot support, but I was able to use this workaround ... and the enhanced boot-as-SATA firmware on the Samsung 950 Pro to properly boot the M2 SSD. **Q: What slots would this card be compatable with?** A: The card will fit into your PC's motherboard into one of your empty PCIe slots. It is a PCIe x4 card, where x4 tells you how long of a PCIe slot you need. The shortest slot that you can have is a PCIe x1 slot (most motherboards have one or more of these) and this card won't fit in that. But any longer PCIe slot that you might have will most likely fit this card, since I am not aware of any slots being x2, and anything else will work (x4, x8 or x16). If you still have the PC or motherboard manual look inside the PC and compare the slots to what you see on the manual's slot list.On the other end the adapter is designed to accept an M.2 form-factor device. I bought this Lycom adapter to connect to an NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD) with M.2 connector. Just check in the device's description that it is M.2 PCIe. I am not very familiar with M.2, but on Wikipedia I see that there are different keying notches on the connector for different types of M.2 modules. **Q: Are those removable screws on the bracket? I would need to change to half-height.** A: Each DT-120 comes with a spare half-height bracket as well. This can be interchanged with the full height bracket by simply removing the screws, then switching the bracket, and putting the screws back. **Q: I heard these could use a heatsink or they will get slowed down (due to overheating), how's your experience?** A: It's more "socket maker" or "port extension" than card it seems to me. So it probably depends upon what you put in it.
