A small, perfectly formed package with a big heart.
I'm an absolute beginner and, being an optimist, bought an electro-acoustic in the belief that, come the day, I might be able to play sufficiently well to justify an amplifier. More seriously, I wanted an electro-acoustic as I had the sneaky suspicion that amplifying my efforts might add to the fun and enjoyment of learning - it does, so I'd definitely recommend treating yourself to an amp too to enhance your learning journey. I wanted an amp that is small and inconspicuous, can be easily moved around and which provides a great sound. The MAACC fits the bill superbly and is, I think, as close to perfect as a beginner like me could wish for. The sound is wonderfully clear, it's as easy as can be to use, and the Wide, Chorus and Reverb functions are fun to have. It's discreet, extremely well made and about the size of a Roberts radio. As others have said, don't be fooled by the wattage - this amp is as happy pushing out plenty of sound, if that's what you want, as it is being used at low volume. A cracking piece of kit.

Built like a tank. Sadly, sounds like a tank, too.
I am a big Roland fan and have been an owner of many products over many decades but am very disappointed with this amp. It sounds like garbage. I really don't know why anyone would be impressed with this. The built quality is superb as I'd expect from Roland. It's weighty, sturdy, very solid and all the controls feel really good. The attached leatherette handle gets in the way of the knobs though, both visually if looking down and when you go to makes adjustments. It cannot be folded/tilted out of the way. It came with 6 batteries so you can start straight away which is a nice touch (and rare these days).I wanted a portable speaker that would run off batteries and offer something more flexible and beefier than the Blackstar Fly which I have and adore. This is almost three times the price, 70% more wattage, and twice the size and weight. This should have been the answer. It should have offered a wider frequency range and greater volume. While it technically does, it does so at the expense of audio quality. Everything sounds harsh, brash and brittle irrespective of the volume level. There is no real body or character to the sound. I've tried with electric guitar (for clean, jazzy tones), ukulele tenor, electro-acoustic guitar and a ukulele bass. All suffered the same fate.Ironically, the Blackstar's reduced/compressed audio range isn't as detailed but it stops it going wrong. On the Roland, increasing the volume also makes the speakers flabber. On deeper sounds, like the ukulele bass, they flabber even at low volumes making it unusable. The sweetness of the ukulele is completely lost. The Tone knob also introduces a lot of hiss even at the half way mark. They say always end on a positive so I will say the chorus and reverb are nice ... if you want a chorus on your tank.Returned.

Disappointing sound quality
This low-power, portable, battery powered (or plug-in power adapter) amplifier is compact and offers 1/4" jack inputs for microphone and guitar while having a choice of a 3.5mm stereo jack socket or a pair of RCA sockets to connect an external audio source (such as an MP3 player). A 3.5mm stereo headphone socket is on the right-hand side of the unit, above the on/off switch and power adapter socket. The amplifier has separate volume controls for each input and one shared tone control. In addition, it offers fully variable levels of reverberation, controlled by a rotary knob, and chorus effect, selected by an on/off push button. In my opinion, the chorus effect is too extreme to be useful. The sound quality is not what I expected of a Roland product. I find the sound quality disappointing, thin and nasal. Other companies also use small loudspeakers but manage to get them to provide a fuller, more balanced sound. I had higher expectations of Roland.

Genius - thankyou Roland
I was a bit sceptical about this but gave it a whirl based on reviews i'd read. I needed something small loud (but with good sound quality) , tough & lightweight & portable to use for playing music from my iphone. And this little thing turned out to be 'the bomb' !As a guitar practice amp it's fantastic too with enough basic sound control to really deliver some nice useable tones. It would be great if it had a bit more bass, but hey it would be good if you could buy tablets in the poundshop which turned water into wine ! The only major improvement other than that i could think of making to this unit, is an independant volume control for the Aux input (have to use iphones volume control) - other than that, Get one, they're built like tanks & sound brilliant - you seriously won't be dissapointed.

Design changes, material skimp
Not as I hopes the same model as 4 years ago only the metal grill has gone from the front and been replaced by a fabric for those with cats. The strap used to be a faux leather now a thin nylon strap off a cheap rucksack. No more center cancel button for karaoke. And whats that dear.. Have I paid approx 20 pounds more than buying the same product better built 4 years ago

amazing product
I am very pleased with built quality and sound. bought it to take with me on travels along with my electro acoustic but now also playing with it at home as portability and battery power and size allow carrying it easily around in the house. Chorus and Reverb are a plus and add on to the variety off sound this small beast offers. Don't be mislead by the watt number, it's louder than I thought it could and no distortion at high sound levels. I also connect it to my iPad/iPhone to listen to music and am very pleased with sound quality. well worth the price I think.
