Well-designed, comfortable and reliable secateurs for everyday pruning tasks
A really solid, dependable pair of secateurs that feel well made from the moment you pick them up. They sit comfortably in the hand and are nicely balanced, making regular pruning and tidying up around the garden straightforward and precise. The geared mechanism provides a noticeable boost in cutting power, meaning you can tackle thicker stems and branches with less effort. They lock easily for safe storage, and the action feels smooth and consistent. I do find that thicker gardening gloves can make operating these a little fiddly, but that’s a minor issue and to be expected with most designs. On very dense or woody stems they can begin to struggle slightly, though that’s more a case of using them beyond their intended range than any shortcoming in the tool itself. They’ve held up really well so far, keeping a sharp edge and showing no signs of wear despite regular use. A great, well-priced pair of secateurs that combine comfort, control and durability - ideal for general garden maintenance.

Solid geared secateurs with clean bite—ideal for thick stems, woody cuts, and daily garden use.
🧪 First Look Picked these up for pruning back shrubs and clearing dead growth—wanted something that handles thicker stems without chewing through the cut. Straight out the pack, they feel weighty and well-balanced. The geared mechanism gives extra bite without needing brute force, and the anvil design makes short work of dry, woody branches. Used them on rose stems, brambles, and some stubborn hedge growth. Clean cuts every time—no crushing, no fray. The non-stick blade coating helps sap and debris slide off, and the handles are comfy even after a long session. 🧰 Real-World Use ✅ Tackled stems up to 2cm thick—no strain, no wrist twist ✅ Geared action reduces hand fatigue—ideal for repeat cuts ✅ Locking mechanism is solid—no accidental open in the pouch ✅ Used with gloves—grip stayed firm, no slip ✅ Wiped clean after use—no rust or gunk buildup Also tested it on some dry hardwood twigs—bit of resistance, but still cut through with control. Not ideal for green soft stems (bypass style’s better there), but for dry and tough growth, it’s bang on. 👍 Pros ✅ Geared mechanism—extra cutting power with less effort ✅ Anvil blade—perfect for dry, woody stems ✅ Non-stick coating—easy to clean ✅ Comfortable grip—works barehanded or with gloves ✅ Solid build—feels durable, no flex 👎 Cons ❌ Not ideal for soft green stems—can crush instead of slice ❌ Slightly bulky—won’t suit small hands ❌ Lock can be stiff at first—loosens with use ❌ No pouch included—needs separate storage 🧭 Final Verdict If you want secateurs that bite through tough stems without wearing out your grip, the Spear & Jackson 6758GS earns its spot. I’ve tested it across garden graft, hedge clearing, and van stash—no drama, just clean cuts and proper control. Good stash-ready gear for anyone who wants their pruning sorted without the faff.

Good basic cutters
Easy to use but doesn’t have a rachet mechanism if that’s what you need if your grip not the strongest. Good value for money though and supplier dealt with the order very quickly.

Good general purpose garden secateurs
This is my review of the Spear & Jackson 6758GS Razorsharp Geared Anvil Secateurs. I went for anvil secateurs as I believe only having one blade(cutting down onto a non-cutting, "anvil," surface) means that when cutting you are only trying to force one blade through the branch so these anvil secateurs are more general purpose than the bypass secateurs.(With two cutting blades that bypass each other in use like the blades on scissors) I also think that these anvil secateurs are better with tough, more woody shrubs. There is some gearing with these secateurs that helps and I was surprised how easily I was able to cut through established growth 1cm diameter without having to use loppers. These secateurs come in at 244g on my scales and feel light enough for prolonged use. The scissor handle is large enough to get your gloved hand through and the spring return is just strong enough to keep the secateurs in your hand whilst you are using them. These secateurs are not perfect however as the main problem with the anvil secateurs is that they do not leave as clean a cut as with the bypass secateurs and they do not work so well on really thin clippings. For some jobs you might be better off with a bypass secateur. These were not expensive for what you get so I am happy to recommend these as they are a good set of anvil secateurs but bear in-mind that for some jobs you may be better with bypass secateurs instead.

No me convencieron y terminé devolviéndolas.

I was impressed with the quality! They come very sharp and they stay very sharp after years of use!

Not what I had hoped due to the ratchet mechanism not working correctly.
