I love Seawhite’s sketchbooks, and this square one is, as ever, just brilliant. Such good value too.

The Seawhite square sketchbooks have quickly become my new favourite. They're cheap, sturdy, with fantastic paper quality that holds up well. I've been looking for a decent square sketchbook for such a long time, and I think this might just be it.I use a combination of wet and dry media, and found that the paper is able to hold up against most things with minimal buckling or ghosting. I use both sides of the paper without issue, even with gouache one side and watercolour on the other, without the paper's integrity being comprised. I've had to endure only the tiniest amount of buckling (after a LOT of paint washes), but the weight of the book seems to iron out (literally) the paper and it's practically perfect after a week or so.My only issue with it is the pointed edges. Personally, I prefer a softer, rounder edge (like illo and moleskine), and I find the sharp corners to be a little bulky. But that's down to me, and not a fault with the brand or the sketchbook itself.

I have several sketchbooks, mostly from big, well known brands that weren't cheap, however I was looking for a sketchbook that was somewhere between the standard A5 & A4 offered by most brands and this size fit the bill. I've never used seawhite books before so wasn't sure what to expect but given the price was half of what I usually pay I wasn't expecting much. I was wrong though, this sketchbook is wonderful! The size is perfect, larger than A5 but more compact than A4. The cloth cover is well made and looks smart but the paper within is lovely. It's a good clean white without having too much glare, has just the right amount of tooth for my liking and it's a good thickness. I expect the paper is heavy enough to take a light wash of watercolour or gouache, the paper is sized to give it extra strength for that purpose, but I haven't tried that yet.All in all I'm very impressed and this brand will be top of my list in future. A new favourite!Update: I can confirm that the paper can take a light wash of watercolour or gouache. It does cockle slightly but that's to be expected. Will be buying the same sketchbook again once this one is full.

Im very very happy with this sketchbook, Its a far higher quality then i had exspected for the price. I got this sketchbook for my nefiew as a christmas pressent, hes never had a nice sketchbook of his own. Hes mentiond how nice my moleskine sketchbooks are in the past, but im kinda tempted to keep this for myself. I would definatly recomend these to others who enjoy sketching, it has a very nice quality and waight of paper and briliantly white and is fantasticly bound. Im definatly stocking up on a few of these for myself 😉Update:- i have just recived one of the sketchbooks for myself, i have been useing the faber castel indian ink pens in the pages i am more than impressed. there there is no bleeding through the page to the other side nor any blooming like i have had happen on other sketchbooks before. i normaly only used moleskine sketchbooks because of there quality,i think i will now be useing both moleskine and seawhite, the price and the quality is so mindblowingly good I cant recomend these highly enough. Stock up wile there still cheep

Lovely sketch books , great quality paper and I love the square format. They are black and not blue as is shown in the photo which is actually a shame as they would look super in blue. I bought two different sizes as gifts for artistic friends who have been thoroughly delighted with them. I will definitely continue to buy these sketch books instead of the better known makes. A good number of pages and being square is just so nice. Very happy indeed.

I bought this for the square format and good reviews. I have a moleskine watercolour large notebook, but the landscape format isn't working for me. I also wasn't keen on doing graphite sketches in the moleskine. I am very impressed with this book for the money. I actually prefer this for watercolour than my moleskine at the moment. I only do light washes, so this is great for that, minimal buckling. I've tested Pitt artist pens - great, but the brush pen feathers. Graphite it's lovely and smooth for that (I like the bright white paper). I've just tested a water brush filled with noodles ink - works great, dries quickly. You do get some ghosting, but given the number of pages I have no problem working on alternate pages if I want. I've ordered a Stillman and Birn alpha sketchbook - be interesting to compare.I compared to a Stillman and Birn alpha notebook - to me, the paper is almost identical. In fact, I prefer this paper.. Bargain sketchbook. Almost tempted to buy another to have in reserve at this price.

This sketchbook has been a go to of mine for years, I mostly use ink and watercolour and it handles it great!

I highly recommend these sketch journals, I used them religiously throught my degree and still continue to use them.
