Review: A brilliant piece of kit - UPDATE I noticed a review stating that this was locked to US; mine plays UK Blu Ray disks and gives the usual five chances to change regions for DVD's. If yours is locked to US you could have received a second-hand one locked by the previous user, which you should be able to return to desertcart for a replacement. ---------- I use this slim-line Bluray writer mainly for ripping CD's to my computer for transfer to my phone. The internal CD writer on my computer is soooo slow (about 5x), but this external drive transfers at about 18x speed - very quick and effective. A handy included sticky pad stops it from sliding round the desk. It's also instant plug and play, using one USB socket for power and one for the data. It looks attractive too. Very highly recommended..

**Q: Is the usb power adaptor plug 3.5mm. or a male usb plug to connect it to writer?**
A: Hope this helps. There are two cables supplied in the box, one is a simple USB 3 cable and USB 2 cable to plug in to the computer and the other end plugs into the writer. The second is a powercable with a UK plug at one end and a small circular connector which plugs in to the writer. Dependant on the power output of your USB from computer, this may only require connecting with USB lead, but if required, power cable can be used.

**Q: can I use it to play blu ray discs on my imac ?**
A: Yes as long as you've got blu ray software installed like cyberlink which is what I use for movies.

**Q: Does this play blu ray discs**
A: Yes and with the right software it also plays 4K uhd blu rays

**Q: Has usb 3.0 sufficient electrical power for it to operate. what is the ampage required to run it**
A: I am currently using my USB C port with this drive, but you should not have any problems with connecting to USB 3 using the connector provided. USB 3.0 and 3.1 allow 5V at 900 mA (4.5W). Certified Hosts and Devices must limit their power delivery and consumption to these "default" power levels.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great! But…

Honestly I would give this four and a half stars which would be more accurate. The player is genuinely very good and does what it says it does, but it does have some minor flaws: First of all, it’s very flimsy feeling, it looks great- but even with a case purchased for it I’m nervous about taking it around. the top of it the case is slightly warped which concerns me but does not impede functionality of the device, and that might just be my unit anyway. The Y cable is quite annoying as it takes up 2 USB slots but if you have a USB splitter it’s not too bad. Secondly, this device is very very loud, do not expect it to be quiet when writing even at low speeds, I did expect this though so it wasn’t really a factor when I was buying it. Maybe don’t use it in any libraries. It reads all my Blurays very very well and lets me make my own with relative ease. Be warned though you do need some technical knowledge and external software to get most new commercial Blurays to play- this is not the fault of the player. Box was really well packed and came with a helpful user guide disc.
