Q: Can I buy an additional charging cable for spare? It seems a bit insecure that the device can't be used if losing or breaking the dedicated cable.

You are right and unfortunately I did not find replacement cables to buy.

Q: is it normal for the red battery light to go off while charging? the light comes off when I connect the charger but then it disappears shortly after

I didn't monitor the progress, but when I turn it on to charge, the red light lights up and I don't monitor it any further, and how long I find the green light - it's already charged. But I just noticed that you need to hit that magnetic head very accurately. Because it doesn't always start to glow red - there is no contact for charging.

Q: Is the keyboard detachable?

The keyboard is not detachable from the rest of the case.

Great accessory for iPad mini (although the product is different from the display pic)

Received a different model. But works very well. The keyboard has mousepad and key size is just perfect. I can work on ppts and excels comfortably. The keyboard is easy to detach. Must have for ipad mini. There is a slot for pencil to charge.
