Are there 2 of these rosettes per package? Because under details it says its just 1

There are 2 rosettes in each package.

Are both pieces the same (having screw holes)? Or does one serve as a receiver, like on a regular door knob?

both pieces are identical. it comes with wood screws and the screw holes did not line up with those in the latch bolt we were using. so it appears they think you will be attaching this directly to wood. since we had a standard hole in our door we had to be a bit creative to make it work.
