Fun, effective drills for unleashing the fury
I originally purchased Chris' video package The Yng-Way and considered this book to just be a printed version of the video package. However, I really feel like this book goes above and beyond the original video package (and they work great together as a set). If you've been struggling to understand how various guitarists (especially one particular Swedish gentleman) are able to accomplish the insane alternate picking bursts common in Neoclassical shred: look no further.Chris has done an amazing amount of analysis on the physiological aspect of picking and explains the various options available to you. While the focus of the book is on one particular technique, Chris is quick to point out that this is A way, not THE way. The focus isn't on dogma, it's on results. The drills and sequences included aren't just effective, they're fun! I can't decide if they're fun because they're effective or if they're effective because they're fun, but either way: they get results! This is likely the best book available on improving alternate picking speed especially in a Neoclassical context.

The best guitar educator I’ve encountered in 34 years
Chris Brooks has obviously taken a systematic and methodical approach to becoming a virtuoso guitarist. However brilliant he is as a player, he might even be a better teacher. I’ve been playing guitar for 34 years and I’m a decent player looking to take my playing to the next level. I wish this book had been around years ago. It contains everything you need for an organised and focussed approach to developing your technique beyond where you thought it could go. Everything is clearly explained and it feels like you have a master instructor in the room with you. I just can’t recommend this and Chris’ other books highly enough. Stop wasting your practise time on the same old familiar territory and just buy this book. It’s like a year worth of weekly lessons with a seasoned pro for less than the cost of one.

A deep dive into what it takes to increase speedi
The book is full of sequences, scales and patterns that you would expect to find in a book with a title like this. The surprising aspect of this book is how it begins with explaining how your means of holding the pick, the mechanics of orientation, slant and offset of the pick all can be optimized to clean up and increase your proficiency. The book moves through examples employing the foundational biomechanics, that allow the player to put these principles to use and to experience their benefit. This is not a book you are going to work through in an afternoon, but there is an included schedule to work through the exercises to help you manage your time and exposure with the content (it can also be modified easily based on your skill level).Very well thought out and engaging, definitely recommended.

Excellent book - highly recommended for all levels of guitar players
Being a professional guitar coach (and published author of several guitar instructional materials), I decided to buy Chris' book to see if I could find "a couple" of cool ideas to further embellish my guitar coaching. Needless to say - I was very very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this product! The book is very well written, extremely well researched and presented. The first part of the book includes extremely detailed analysis and explanations of the picking mechanics - invaluable for guitarists of all levels, even quite advanced players. The second part offers an excellent assortment of playing examples and exercises to help assimilate the presented materials. This book gets my highest recommendation - especially at the amazingly affordable price this is sold. Don't miss it - this is bound to become a definite staple in the contemporary electric guitarist's arsenal of instructional materials.

Fantastic book
Awesome book! Just what I was looking for to increase my speed. I've already noticed great improvement in just a few weeks. I love the detailed and descriptive approach that Chris uses. The diagrams are super helpful and the audio files are an added bonus. Definitely going to get more of Chris's books!

Great book, exactly what I was looking for.
What I loved about this book is that it combines an excellent detailed lesson on picking mechanics with examples of Yngwie’s playing that I could actually play at my own speed as a first step. For anyone who wants to play like Yngwie and don’t know where to start, this is the book to get.

Improvise Like Yngwie
Thank you Chris Brooks. Ever heard someone say Yngwie only plays one scale? Well this is it! If you want to go Yngwie you need to go the Yng Way. This is not on YouTube and there’s a reason artist charge money for things. I bought the paperback and it came with the audio downloads which are helpful and neat however, you don’t need them. Everything you need to learn to attack Yngwie’s style and improvisation is right here. Remember that old saying “Practice makes perfect”? Not True! What is true is that “Perfect practice makes perfect”. Before you hit the wood shred let this book be your tool for your own RISING FORCE.
