Historical Value - moments of disassociated lucid genius
Just like ANY political philosopher/ideaologist, the points attempted in this book are futile. There is no way to engineer a population, the idea that it could be done is narcissistic, short-sighted, and ignorant of human nature. However, Wells does have some moments of disassociated lucid genius that, in my opinion, make this book a worth-while read; even though they don’t prove his points. I like this quote, it can be interpreted in an opposite way depending on who is reading it, but it is a great statement:‘One of the more unpleasant aspects of a state of war under modern conditions is the appearance of a swarm of individuals, too clever by half, in positions of authority. Excited, conceited, prepared to lie, distort and generally humbug people into states of acquiescence, resistance, indignation, vindictiveness, doubt and mental confusion, states of mind supposed to be conductive to a final military victory. These people love to twist and censor facts. It gives them a feeling of power; if they cannot create they can at least prevent and conceal. Particularly they poke themselves in between us and the people with whom we are at war to distort any possible reconciliation. They sit, filled with the wine of their transitory powers, aloof from the fatigues and dangers of conflict, pulling imaginary strings in people's minds.’Chapter 2, ‘Open Conference’

new world order??
Chapter 10 - The Declaration of the Rights of Men. this entire chapter is devoted to mr. well's prototype declaration of the new order's fundamental rights that should be offered to every man (i should note that the use of the word "man" is expanded by wells himself to include both men and women.) among the rights listed are:1. physical care - food, covering, medical, ect.2. education - under this right is included the right to easy access to information that will make him useful to society, as well as the right to freedom of association, discussion and worship.3. employment - this seems to imply pay based on contribution to society4. commerce - buy and sell without restrictions (there is a comment about quantity. "...in such quantities and with such reservations as are compatible with the common welfare."5. personal property protection6. travel - freedom to move about the world at his expense7. incarceration - trial by jury, and right to speedy trial. in this is included the protection from a military or paramilitary "draft".8. slander and libel - protection from both. included is also freedom of information about any "government" documents regarding yourself to be open for your personal inspection and correction.9. cruel and unusual punishment - protection from both.10. amendment protection - declares that this list of rights are foundation, and can not be nullified or changed except for clarification. clarification can not amended or change these rights listed.it is hard to argue these rights, but look at what the collectivist world has done with itself and human rights. do you see any examples of these rights in the collectivist world. Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot, Castro - these are the examples from the past, but what of the collectivist examples of today? Bush, Obama, Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, virtually all of the UN and the EU parliaments, Gore. These rights seem nice, but where can we find examples of them in reality? collectivist aka socialist supporters aka elitists, don't need these rights... they have money, and they don't want people to have these rights... as exemplified by their international policies. so where are these rights? and, again, who is making the decisions? who will be in charge of these?all in all it was a very interesting read. i think it is a must read for anyone wondering what the collectivist ideology is all about.

Read it as Utopian Science Fiction
This is what Socialism was supposed to be, and isn't. The book only hints at the terror and gulags. The author completely failed to imagine the corruption, hopelessness and misery.

Nothing but an Historical Curiosity
When I was a kid, I enjoyed Wells' science fiction books, though by today's standards they could seen as a bit racist. Yeah, there was the part about 300 African soldiers anticipating an attack and the resulting sacking of Paris. Probably couldn't get that published today. But as time passed I became aware that Wells was both a propaganda hack for Alfred Milner's Inner Circle and a Fabian Socialist. Well, that and the fact that he was really good at seducing younger women. Milner and friends wanted to attack and destroy any group or nation posing a threat, or a political speed bump, to the Brisish Empire. First the Boers and then the Germans. To Milner's Inner Circle The Empire must be saved at all costs. I'm not sure where Wells' fascination for socialism came from though it may have well been his impoverished childhood and failure to learn any practical trade. Kind of like Howard Zinn.By 1940, when Wells was in his mid-seventies, he wrote "The New World Order." The text is as rambling as is his thinking. The word he most used to describe the NWO is "collectivism." This is to come about through some sort of peaceful evolution where people simply give up property. Banks are to disappear (I wish they would) and only people over fifty would complain about the transformation. People would still work hard even if they don't get financial rewards for their efforts. The descendents of those fictional 300 Africans will share and share alike with today's industrious Koreans and Japanese. And, we will all drink free Bubble Up and eat rainbow stew. Here's some irony. Britain lost its empire and now has been invaded by the very people it had subjugated. It has become one of the poorer countries in Europe on a per capita basis. Germany is still rich and controls the European economy. And finally the NWO has been co-opted by the banks Wells thought would disappear. Obviously the Greek Gods still exist and are enjoying the humor of this. One last note: evolutionay psychologists have shown that socialism doesn't work as have several real world attempts. People learn trades, educate themselves, and work hard to gain status and to leave something to their children. Socialism brings nothing but passive-aggressive behavior from most people as they just pretend to work. That's what I would do. Why is that so hard for some people to understand?

Was there an editor?
I'm about a third of the way through this edition and my whole experience is being spoiled by the unacceptable number of typos, the awkward justification of type and the obvious lack of care that has gone into the book's production. I'll complete my review upon finishing the whole book but, until then, I'm not convinced that, for the £11 I've spent, I'm getting good value for money.I've finished the book now and my comments above have remained accurate. There are sentences of mere gobbledegook. There are phrases that do not flow and the typos are endless. The text itself, the meat of the book, is extremely interesting. Okay, it's naïve because WW2, at the time of the book's writing, is only two years old. The central idea of the world uniting as a socialist collective would, imo, be a Utopia but so unlikely as to explain why H. G. Wells is more renowned as a writer of SF.I enjoyed the book immensely. It was value for money but the editor should have gone to SpecSavers!

The book is not an original publication.
I'm looking for an old original publication dated earlier than 1990's. This one has been re-written.

The New World Order is satan's blueprint for the subjugation of humanity.
As you read this book you will realise that Huxley's book 1984 was almost prophetic. Donald Trump was put in power by the Almighty to give us one last chance to turn to Jesus. After he's gone, if you haven't been saved, the New World Order will take over the world, and you will lose everything. After you read this book you might want to read The Book of Revelation in the Holy Christian Bible.
