Fantastic
I recently read Zero Days by Ruth Ware. I'm not sure if you're aware of it but Ruth Ware and I have a "thing" going on. It's off and on, hot and cold. I've read everything she has written. I have really liked most of her books, really didn't like One by One, and count The Death of Mrs. Westaway as one of my ALL TIME favorites, for the setting alone. I'm thrilled to say, Ruth Ware and I are happily allied again, reader and author. Zero Days is about a husband (Gabe) and wife (Jack) team, they work as penetration specialists. They are paid to break into buildings to see what security measures are too lax. They are working at a client's business late at night, with Jack inside the building. Gabe, a computer specialist, at home on his computer, directing Jack through the building and around security through her earpiece. Suddenly Gabe stops answering and Jack gets caught, taken to police. While trying to get Gabe to explain their business to the police, he stops answering the phone. Exhausted herself, Jack finally drives home, mad that Gabe has obviously fallen asleep, leaving her to deal with the cops alone. Only when Jack gets home, she finds her beloved husband murdered. The story goes from bad to worse when the police have only one suspect, Jack. This is the best thriller I've read this year. Nothing even comes close to Zero Days. I am a slow reader, I received the book yesterday morning and had it finished this morning, something I've never done. I wanted to stay up all night reading it, I didn't but wanted to. It is smart and twisty; the pacing is relentless. This book does not stop, it grabs you, shakes you by the shoulders and asks cockily "How did you like that?" Start to finish, a great story and edge of your seat thriller. If there was thriller writing school, this would be the textbook.

Loved this!
I love Ruth Ware! I was very excited to read this book and it did not disappoint.Jack and her husband Gabe break into business for a living to share where they are most vulnerable. Their latest assignment is going great, until it goes horribly wrong. After arriving home from the latest assignment, Jack finds Gabe dead. Who would want to kill Gabe, everyone loved him. To add to the horror of finding her husband dead, Jack finds she is the only suspect the police have. To clear her name and find Gabe’s killer, Jack goes on the run and as the police close in, Jack realizes she is not sure who she can trust.OMG! I loved Jack so much. She was one bad-ass, strong woman. I loved how at the beginning of the book when they were on assignment, we got to see their back and forth banter and how much they loved each other. I had tears in my eyes every time Jack would think of Gabe and hear his voice in her head.I cannot say anything about this book because it would spoil things. But this is a fast paced thriller that I finished in a couple of days. My anxiety was off the charts the entire time I was reading. I was rooting for Jack to figure out who killed Gabe, before the police closed in.

really a fun beach read.
Was really pretty good and interesting. I was a little annoyed with some of the details such as so much time was spent on how her side hurt. If she had contacted her sister why wouldn’t she have asked her to grab antibiotics. Otherwise a great beach read and makes you really think about the dark web, privacy in apps and so on.

Great book by a favorite author of mine
I was hooked within the first couple of pages and this was an intense, endurance read that depicts how far one person will go to find and prove the truth - no matter what is discovered in the process.

Exciting!
While I'm not sure I totally buy the idea that the police would hone in on the main character and stop investigating so quickly, I found the book to be very well-written and fun to read.

Good summer page turner, although ending was anticlimactic
I bought this book on a whim when I saw it in an airport bookstore. I am in IT and the title caught my attention. After I read the blurb on the flap I decided to get it. It has a long setup--I had read about 20% into the book by the time the lengthy exposition had caught up with what was described on the flap.Ware creates literary irony by telegraphing a plot twist well ahead of time. This creates tension, wondering how long it will be before Jack, the protagonist, figures out what we figured out.Jack is a physical security penetration tester, and her husband Gabe is a cybersecurity expert. The plot therefore involves a few technical details about things like phone cloning, but they are explained well enough to be able to follow the story. In Jack’s exploits, luck goes her way just a few too many times to be credible, like pushing open doors that should be alarmed but no alarm goes off. Yet her single biggest setback is a self-inflicted injury that she gets climbing over a wall. (This injury is milked for all it’s worth for the rest of the story.) It was also mentioned that Gabe did his full system backups onto hard drives. No cyber professional would keep the only backups on media in the same physical facility as the authoritative data.Although one culpable party is revealed, who is ultimately confronted by Jack, we never get the satisfaction of the apprehension of the people who ultimately were responsible. Instead, we suddenly find ourselves in the denouement and epilog where the story sort of fizzles out. There is a kind of closure, but there is no satisfaction of seeing justice done in the system.

A good story, but let down by 3 things (with SPOILER ALERT)
I love a good, fast-paced thriller and this book showed a lot of promise. In the opening few pages, the heroine — a woman known as “Jack” — returns home from a dangerous assignment (she does physical checks of security for companies, involving illegal break-ins) to find her husband murdered. And she quickly becomes the prime — indeed, only — suspect. And makes a run for it. With echoes of 1930s thrillers like John Buchan’s The Thirty Nine Steps she even has to jump from a moving train at one point. But there were three things I didn’t like about the book. First, the internal monologue, which is quite repetitive, focussing on how much she misses her dead husband. That significantly padded out the story and I though unnecessarily so. The second two gripes involve a SPOILER ALERT: if you’ve ever seen the movie Ghost with Demi Moore, you may remember her beloved murdered husband and his best friend, the slimy Carl Bruner. A character appears here and I immediately thought — please don’t go there. But the author did. But the worst part was to follow. In the end, as you can imagine, good triumphs (no spoiler there) and our heroine is recuperating in hospital. But with her beloved husband gone, she sees no point in living. After all, what can a woman alone do with her life? And then I worried that the author would slip in some handsome doctor and she’d fall into his arms. But no, this is 2023, authors don’t do that kind of nonsense any more. Instead, Jack finds meaning and a reason to live because, as we discover, she is … with child. The utterly backward and reactionary nature of the story was really quite a shock to me. As if a talented, educated, witty woman can only find meaning in life through her amazing husband or a child. I may be unfair, but those things ruined an otherwise interesting book for me.

A clever, fast-paced, suspenseful read
A fun, smart, fast-paced thriller right from the start. I liked the main character and determined and resourceful personality, found the plot to be clever, and learned quite a bit about online security. (I’m pretty sure my own security systems are completely lacking) Highly recommend if you enjoy suspense / thrillers.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 stars💕You might like this book if:🔹 you like books where characters are on the run trying to solve a mystery / crime🔹 you like TV shows Like Jack Ryan or movies such as The Fugitive🔹 you are interested in learning a bit about security systems or cyber crime

Ruth Ware at her best!
I've always been a fan, but this book was particularly gripping and suspenseful. Her ability grab your attention, feel the tension of the characters, wondering if it can get resolved (or not, because she's a writer that is just "that" good). I read it within two days, waking up to read just a bit more and realizing it was 3 am. and still couldn't stop! Highly recommend this mystery - thriller, you won't be disappointed.
