The Real Ghostbusters Omnibus Volume 1 Paperback – 13 Nov. 2012

I got loads of The Real Ghostbusters comics published by Marvel in the UK at the height of its popularity so was really happy to see this Omnibus being published. As I remember it, the Marvel comics stories were the main material for the UK based comics where as the stories collected here are the American NOW comics, some of which were published in the UK as holiday special type issues. The Marvel UK stories (some of which have recently been republished by Titan Books) were by a pretty varied group of writers and artists, mostly pretty short sharp stories, all separate unrelated one-off type plots and as a result used a variety of styles. Looking through this Omnibus of the NOW comics it's instantly clear how different the American approach really was. The NOW comics have a far more consistent style, have much longer plots that include elements and characters that return in later stories. I originally only remember reading what seems to be one, two and five of the NOW issues so it was great to see all the issues collected here so far that either I missed first time around or were just never used/published by Marvel in the UK. The NOW issues all have a really strong pencil/line style and colour scheme. NOW also go for some quite dramatic, longer plots while still having some of the sillier and more amusing themes of The Real Ghostbusters.
