BREN : Secrets and Lies Series Book 4

loved this
Bren is something else entirely! Who would’ve thought that the big mafia man could be smitten from the get go. Sky is phenomenal, strong despite everything. The spice was excellent with some dom sub dynamics and of course all the passion. What I didn’t expect was for tears to roll down my face a few times. Shew, I loved this book.

Good book
Bren by BJ Alpha is the fourth standalone in the Secrets and Lies Series. This is a DARK romance. So check your triggers. This book follows the story of Bren and Sky. This is a fast-paced book. I wish the characters were. Little more flushed out. I fill like the ending was little rushed. But overall a good story.

😭
This one made me cry so much. I have no idea why because some of the others had more “triggers” in them but, damn…Bren has a lot more emotions in him than anyone realizes.I’m excited for Oscars story next.

story line
I loved this book it had just the right amount of spice in it. I will say however though the story line to me felt a bit off just because I’m the beginning they talk about how she was in human trafficking but then after the beginning it is never really mentioned again and just feels like an unnecessary part of the book when it should be important because that’s where she came from however this is still a good book and I would definitely recommend this to a beginner reader.

Bren is my favorite!!
I absolutely love all these O’Connell brothers! But I think Bren might be my favorite! It’s a tie between him and Cal. This was I think my favorite in the series. The way the big, broody, grumpy Bren softened up for Sky was perfect. He rescues her and swears he’ll do anything for her and protect her, and he does.I was waiting for the drama to unfold with Marianne. I knew it was coming from comments in book 3. It pissed me off Bren would actually agree to marriage and then sleep with her even, after only such a short time of letting Sky go- because he thought she’d move on. He’s a man whose suppose to have all the facts, and had Oscar keeping tabs on her, yet he failed to know that she wasn’t moving on. She wasn’t with anyone else. It was wrong how he treated her and removed her from his life, knowing they had unprotected s£x and there was a chance she could be pregnant. Angel also really pissed me off. She needed to mind her business, she injected herself into Bren and Sky’s relationship too much.I loved this book, it had so much happening. And more details are coming out regarding their uncle and I can’t wait to see the final conclusion! Starting Oscar now!

eh
I am…confusion.I liked Sky. I wanted to know more about the compound, but I didn’t get that. I got introduced to new interesting characters for no reason other than death. Sky went from a perfectly programmed sub…to something else without a lick of explanation or even shown growth on the page.Bren was yannow, your regular overbearing Mafia guy. It didn’t bother me.I still despise Reece. I think he’s a little…(insert expletive) and his autism is used to excuse his deplorable behavior. And that’s not how that works. It didn’t work in the other book and it’s just cringe now.Angel? She needed the same treatment Marianne received. That would have been lovely.Overall…I feel like plot points were introduced, intrigue was teased…and it was all for nothing. When all else fails…kill everyone, I guess. Questions were raised and well, guess that’s just too bad.The 🌶 was on point…to a certain extent. Then it just became this annoying thing that happened to fill pages instead of delving into the plot. And sure, I guess most romance readers these days want minimal plot and don’t care about dangling unanswered questions. If so…hey, here you go. Enjoy!2.5 stars

Hot-as-heck age gap romance with a huge dose of Woah!!!
Wow… so that was totally unexpected! If you’ve read all the previous Secrets and Lies Series, you’ll be well aware that BJ Alpha’s writing is filled with saucy, sexiness that literally has you laughing one minute and crying the next.I grew to love Cal, fell in love with Con instantly and well… Finn is just the most deliciously deadly bad boy… Bren on the other hand always came across as the standoffish, stoic and often arrogant oldest O’Connell brother. Maybe it’s having weight of responsibility as a Mafia Don to uphold, but he seemed far from warm and cuddly… yet in this book, that’s what he becomes the moment he meets Sky.Now, there are a lot of tropes and possible triggers that may put some readers off. If you have read the whole series so far, you’ll already know that the O’Connells found themselves in a dilemma when they discovered that someone close to them had been playing them along their whole lives. This story finds them involved yet further in the shady dealings of human trafficking and selling young women for sexual purposes. And Bren lands himself right in the middle of the situation when he rescues and falls immediately in love with the young girl they find in a shipping crate at their warehouse.Don’t worry spoiler police… I’ve not really given anything away that we didn’t already know. However, the journey this rather bizarre yet intrinsically beautiful couple take is one of trust, protection and intense need.If you don’t like dominant/submissive tropes then this may not be for you… and given the age gap between Bren and Sky together with Sky’s difficult and traumatic past, it sometimes feels like it’s spinning the needle of your moral compass so much that it feels wrong to love how Bren dominates the innocently submissive Sky… but then there’s that part of you that also understands the Bren acts through nothing except a deep and powerful love and instinctive need to protect her and make her feel safe and cherished and… loved. There’s a whole heap of emotions running throughout this book and I couldn’t put it down… because you know that something somewhere is going pull these two apart. It’s inevitable that saving Sky is going to have consequences but they certainly won’t be the ones you immediately think of.This book certainly kept me guessing and even though I had no doubt BJ wouldn’t disappoint, so many times my heart was in my throat (not quite as much as Con’s story… at which I sobbed my heart out). She has such a good way of creating that tension. And there’s always that niggle of doubt that just maybe this time we won’t get a happy ending.Overall though, I think it’s the difference between the two different sides of Bren that we see that endeared me to this story the most. He’s still the very scary, big, burly and brutish mob boss… the commanding force behind his powerful family, but then you see the softer, caring and loving side when he’s taking care of Sky that makes you fall, and fall hard for this dirty-talking sexual Adonis. Holy heck is he a naughty one… but I can’t help but absolutely adore this man despite his many flaws. With only one brother left, I can’t wait to see where this ongoing plot takes us. Will they discover who the Mexican is? Will they bring an end to the trafficking? And just who is going fall in love with the awkwardly awesome Oscar.Amazing stuff. May not be to everyone’s taste, but I loved it. Forever!

Oooof!!!
For the 4th book in the series I was given an arc copy and boy did I just enjoy it! The book had many triggering topics so I would highly recommend you check for them. This book is an age-gap, surprise baby, Dom-sub kink, mafia romance. So we have Bren, the head of the Irish Mafia who goes to check on the container that one of his men receive at his warehouse where he meets a victim of sex ring Sky. The minute he sees her she has his heart. With more secrets and lies to unravel will Sky and Bren stay strong when they are being tested amidst all the misunderstand, confusion and surprise baby? Read to find out...because I definitely enjoyed it.

Bren is now my new fave
I was never sure what to make of Bren in the other books, because we had only tantalising glimpses of him, and it left me wondering who the hell he'd become when love found him.I now have a new favourite brother, and this is difficult because previously Con was that for me. Bren has so many layers, and so much care and love to give, that I was absolutely hooked on his book and his journey.Sky, what can I say about her? She's lucky that she was put in Bren's way, because he's meant for her, but she's also so much stronger than any of them expected and I was in awe of her character growth during this book. You know that feeling when a book ends and you sigh, wishing there were just a few more pages. Definitely one of those books.

Loved it
Bren is convinced that he won't follow in his brothers footsteps by becoming attached to one woman, but this flies out the window when he locks eyes on Sky. He goes full on alpha possessive. When secrets and lies come to light everything falls apart. Will they manage to work through everything.Absolutely loved this book it was amazing. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. This series just keeps getting better and better. Full of the O Connoll's banter and dramatics which had me laughing out loud. This book also made me cry, my emotions went on a roller coaster journey. One minute I was crying then I was laughing. At times I wanted to smack Bren around the head for being so stupid but thank goodness he came to his senses in the end. Definitely recommend 👌

Wow a must read
Omg a must read BJ Alpha as done it again i loved this book i cried and shouted at the book in placesWhen Bren finds a girl in a container she has no name so Bren calls her Sky, Bren is very protective of her from the being and does not want anyone to touch her but him.Sky has been brought up in a compound until she was due to be sold but they put her in a container with the wrong sticker, when Bren opens the container he is the first person she sees and she hangs on to him.Bren and Sky have an instant connection to each other and with Bren being alpha male in always, things get hot and heavy from the start, when Bren learns something he has to decide if to let her go or not. Will they get their happy ending they deserve
