We're looking to build our own house. Or rather, I should say, we're looking to have one built for us. We've spent a couple of hundred quid on books and this is the best by far, full of useful information from start to finish, explaining what the options are at every stage, from planning to foundations to the build itself, from underfloor heating to finishing touches. If you're actually going to build your own house, or will be project managing the build, this will help but doesn't go in to the technical detail that you probably need - 1119953170 European Building Construction Illustrated Paperback is the book you're looking for.

This is an ideal manual for me since I am considering options for building a house in my garden. The manual is not designed to give detailed instructions on how to build a house but it is very helpful in taking you through the process leading up to the actual build. It therefore covers matters like layout, materials, insulation, heating options, planning processes, appointing architects, designers and builders, building regulations etc. etc. A good buy!

it is not what i was expecting, i think this is for someone that has already got building skills.i was hoping that it would have clear picture and expolded diagrames of how to build a house but it has left me wanting to find a different book with better detail showing how make the foundations, construct stud walls and timber roof.this is not for a first time self builder.

Covers everything you need to know if you are self building. It is even useful if you end up not self building and just extending.

Complete noob, but enjoying this book despite how in depth it is. Everything is explained, but not to the point where it bogs you down. Easy to use and a pleasure to read

It is not extremely detailed but it is very good to find yourself in the proces, to know on the start what to expect - worth to read!
